Dey is an A. Russell Chandler III Professor in Georgia Tech\u0026rsquo;s H. Milton Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISyE).\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe Egon Balas Prize was established in 2020 and\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/connect.informs.org\/optimizationsociety\/prizes\/egon-balas-prize\u0022\u003Eis awarded annually to an early-career individual for significant contributions in the field of optimization\u003C\/a\u003E, including theory, algorithms, and\/or computations. In the award announcement, Dey is\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/aco.gatech.edu\/news\/aco-faculty-santanu-dey-isye-receives-inaugural-ios-egon-balas-prize\u0022\u003Ecited\u003C\/a\u003E\u0026nbsp;for his \u0026ldquo;strong and seminal contributions to the theory of maximal lattice-free convex sets; multi-row cuts; cutting planes in integer programming; the structure of mixed-integer convex optimization; and, along with co-authors, developed practical algorithms for power problems based on strong relaxations from a detailed analysis of the underlying systems.\u0026rdquo;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;Congratulations to Santanu on being the inaugural winner of the Egon Balas Prize,\u0026rdquo; said ISyE School Chair Edwin Romeijn. \u0026ldquo;He has made a substantial impact on the field of discrete optimization during his career, and this award further confirms that. We are proud to have him as part of the ISyE team, and I look forward to his future contributions.\u0026rdquo;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EDey\u0026#39;s research interests are in the area of non-convex optimization, and in particular, mixed integer linear and nonlinear programming.
