{"641924":{"#nid":"641924","#data":{"type":"news","title":"FLAS Fellowships for Summer 2021 and Academic Year 2021-2022","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EThe Atlanta Global Studies Center (AGSC), a consortium of Georgia Tech and Georgia State University is pleased to announce the competition for 2021-2022 FLAS Fellowships. The FLAS fellowships assist undergraduate and graduate students in achieving competency in selected foreign languages in combination with international and area studies coursework.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe FLAS Fellowships are available for the less commonly taught languages (LCTLs) of Arabic, Chinese, Hebrew, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Persian\/Farsi, Portuguese, Russian, and Swahili. Funding for French, German, and Spanish languages may be available ONLY for GRADUATE students at an advanced-level. French, German and Spanish are NOT eligible languages for UNDERGRADUATE students.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EFLAS fellowships can be used to study abroad or on campus. Students can apply for both Summer and Academic Year fellowships, which are evaluated separately so there is no disadvantage to applying to both.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003ESummer 2021 Fellowships\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EUndergraduates \u0026amp; graduates: living stipend of $2,500 and up to $5,000 for Georgia Tech tuition and fees and for the language program. Summer fellowships are intended for intensive language study domestically or abroad, defined as a program that offers at least 6 weeks of language instruction with 140 contact hours at the beginning (graduate students only) or intermediate levels or 120 contact hours at the advanced level. The AGSC encourages applications to Georgia Tech\u0026#39;s School of Modern Languages\u0026#39; study-abroad programs (modlangs.gatech.edu\/study-abroad)\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EAcademic Year 2021-2022 Fellowships\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EUndergraduates: living stipend of $5,000, up to $10,000 towards tuition and mandatory fees, and out-of-state students receive an out-of-state tuition waiver at Georgia Tech.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EGraduates: living stipend of $15,000, up to $18,000 towards tuition and mandatory fees, and out-of-state students receive an out-of-state tuition waiver at Georgia Tech. *Academic year fellows are required to take one language and one global\/area studies course each semester; to be enrolled full-time (12 hrs.\/semester) during the fellowship period; to make satisfactory progress in their coursework; and to maintain good standing with the university. Only full year (9-month) fellowships are available.
