Ultra-small systems, however, cannot store sufficient energy to sustain monitoring, interface, processing, and telemetry functions for long. And replacing or recharging the batteries of hundreds of networked nodes can be labor intensive, expensive, and oftentimes impossible. This is why alternate sources are the subject of ardent research today. Except power densities are low, and in many cases, intermittent, so supplying functional blocks is challenging. Plus, tiny lithium-ion batteries and super capacitors, while power dense, cannot sustain life for extended periods. This talk illustrates how emerging microelectronic systems can draw energy from elusive ambient sources to power tiny wireless sensors.

Speaker Bio

Prof. Gabriel A. It has grown from building small commercial facilities to the some of the most prestigious projects in the Southeast. Today, Inglett & Stubbs employs over 1,000 electricians and is involved in projects ranging from $10,000 to $100 million. Inglett & Stubbs’ signature markets include healthcare, data centers, institutional/educational projects, stadiums, laboratories, industrial/power generation, and International U.S. Government facilities. As construction projects continue to push the constraints of conventional design, productivity, and schedule, the value proposition of electrical contractors has evolved. Inglett & Stubbs has expanded their services to include preconstruction, budgeting, design/build, construction services, low voltage, telecommunications, and maintenance.

Construction projects are led by the Project Manager. They are not only responsible for the logistical and financial success of the project, but also serve as the liaison between the owner, the design team (architects and engineers), and the construction team. They must ensure that the project be successful financially, meets all codes and specifications, be delivered on time, and satisfies the owner’s intent. Balancing these responsibilities is a fine balance that all good Project Managers strive for.

Biographical Sketch of the Speaker:
Gaël Pirlot graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology with a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering in 2005 and a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering in 2006. The role of an Electrical Engineering degree from Georgia Tech is illustrated through out the career of subspecialized surgeon in the field of Urology. The wide rage of skills provided by such a degree include, software programming, signal processing, robotics, lasers, fiber optics and problem solving.

Biographical Sketch of the Speaker: Dr. Byrne grew up in New Jersey and attended the Georgia Institute of Technology to study electrical engineering. He worked for several years as an engineer before entering medical school. He obtained his medical degree from Virginia Commonwealth University where he also completed his general surgery internship and urologic residency. Dr. Byrne completed a one-year fellowship in Endourology and stone disease at the Cleveland Clinic. His clinical interests include endoscopic and percutaneous surgery for stone disease along with the medical management of stone disease. He is currently a partner at a large urology practice in Richmond Virginia. He serves as the treasure of the Virginia Urological Society and is a community clinical faculty member of the Virginia Commonwealth Division of Urology.

 <status>1</status> <created>1583436454</created> <gmt_created>2020-03-05 19:27:34</gmt_created> <changed>1583436471</changed> <gmt_changed>2020-03-05 19:27:51</gmt_changed> <promote>0</promote> <sticky>0</sticky> <teaser>The Evolving Role of Electrical Engineering in the Career of a Urologist</teaser> <type>event</type> <sentence>The Evolving Role of Electrical Engineering in the Career of a Urologist</sentence>

The Evolving Role of Electrical Engineering in the Career of a Urologist - Dr. Michael D. We had many great speakers, from financial planners, to engineers, to entrepreneurs. One particularly interesting speaker was Gene Zimmer, a patent attorney with the Atlanta firm, Jones and Askew. He spoke about practicing law as a patent attorney, patent laws, rules, and the requirements necessary to patent inventions, and generally about being an attorney with an engineering undergraduate degree. It all sounded appealing, but I never thought I would have the opportunity to attend law school, much less become a patent attorney. Yet, here I am, because you just never know. I plan to share why that is true in my case, how I went from being an ECE student to becoming a patent attorney, and about life as an attorney. However, I am happy to talk about anything else, be it law school, intellectual property law, transitioning from engineering to law, or other topics, so please ask lots of questions.

Biographical Sketch of the Speaker: Philip Burrus has a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering (’93) and Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (’95) from Georgia Tech, a Master of Business Administration (’02) and Juris Doctor (’02) from Emory University, and a Master of Agriculture (’16) from Auburn University. Prior to starting the Burrus Intellectual Property Law Group, he worked as a Patent Attorney for Motorola, Inc. Prior to law school he worked as an Electrical Engineer for Motorola, Inc. and a Design Engineer for Schlumberger Limited. He has served as Chair of the Intellectual Property Section of the Georgia Bar and is also a certified sommelier.

 <status>1</status> <created>1582210533</created> <gmt_created>2020-02-20 14:55:33</gmt_created> <changed>1582210547</changed> <gmt_changed>2020-02-20 14:55:47</gmt_changed> <promote>0</promote> <sticky>0</sticky> <teaser>You Never Know: How I went from ECE Student to Patent Attorney</teaser> <type>event</type> <sentence>You Never Know: How I went from ECE Student to Patent Attorney</sentence>

You Never Know: How I went from ECE Student to Patent Attorney - Mr. Philip H. They allow us to study how objects interact with light based on the wavelength of energy recorded. Applications include construction, agriculture, energy, and government. Compressive sensing is a technique to reduce the number of measurements. I present a novel hyperspectral sensor based on the theory of compressive sensing. The reconstruction algorithms recover the hyperspectral signal from measured data. I discuss various approaches to reconstruction, including optimization and neural networks. Machine learning will classify the raw and reconstructed hyperspectral data. This presentation will provide a glimpse into current research on hyperspectral imaging.

Biographical Sketch of the Speaker: Dennis Lee is a computer scientist in a Remote Sensing group at Sandia National Laboratories.
