They will also address the following questions in a discussion with audience members: What are the major challenges to twenty-first-century \u003Cem\u003Efl\u0026acirc;nerie\u003C\/em\u003E? What are creative solutions to these global challenges? How and why is \u003Cem\u003Efl\u0026acirc;nerie \u003C\/em\u003Estill a relevant and valid concept\u0026mdash;both in theory and in practice\u0026mdash;in this millennium?\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EKelly Comfort\u003C\/strong\u003E is Associate Professor of Spanish in the School of Modern Languages at Georgia Tech.\u0026nbsp; A specialist in Latin American literature and transatlantic modernisms, Dr. Comfort has published two books: \u003Cem\u003ECien a\u0026ntilde;os de identidad: Introducci\u0026oacute;n a la literatura latinoamericana del siglo XX\u003C\/em\u003E (Georgetown University Press, 2018), an advanced Spanish textbook and Latin American literature anthology, and \u003Cem\u003EEuropean Aestheticism and Spanish American \u003C\/em\u003EModernismo (Palgrave MacMillan, 2011), which examines the changing role of art and the artist during the turn-of-the-century period and considers the multiple dichotomies of art and life, aesthetics and economics, and production and consumption. Her edited volume \u003Cem\u003EArt and Life in Aestheticism\u003C\/em\u003E (Palgrave MacMillan, 2008) rethinks the relationship in aestheticism between the aesthetic and the human realms over the past two centuries.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EMarylaura Papalas\u003C\/strong\u003E is Associate Professor of French at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina and also serves as book review editor for \u003Cem\u003EStudies in 20th \u0026amp; 21st Century Literature. \u003C\/em\u003EShe specializes in twentieth-century European avant-garde movements and has published on both Greek and French surrealists. Her article on surrealist fashion designer Elsa Schiaparelli is the 2017 recipient of the Women\u0026rsquo;s Caucus for the Modern Languages Florence Howe Award for Feminist Scholarship in the Field of Foreign Languages.
