Students will present their inventions during a live Georgia Public\nBroadcasting program \u0026nbsp;televised from the\nGeorgia Institute of Technology\u2019s Robert\n Ferst Center\nfor the Arts on March 9 at 7 p.m.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\n\n\u003Cp\u003EThe\nInVenture Prize is an innovation competition for Georgia Tech undergraduate students\nwho work independently or in teams to create inventions that will be presented\nand judged by a panel of experts. \u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\n\n\u003Cp\u003EThe\nseven finalists and the 20 inventors are:\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\n\n\n\n\u003Cul\u003E\u003Cli\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EAdsCreated\n     \u003C\/strong\u003E\u2013\n     An automated, cutting edge e-commerce computer program that creates online\n     advertisements: Roger Pincombe, College\n     of Computing, Peachtree City, Ga.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EAutoRhexis\u003C\/strong\u003E - An innovative\n     instrument designed to improve cataract surgery: Christopher Giardina,\n     Biomedical Engineering (BME), Alpharetta, Ga.; Rebeca Bowden, BME, Athens,\n     Ga.; Jorge Baro, BME, Duluth, Ga.; Kanitha Kim, Mechanical Engineering (ME),\n     Gaithersburg, Md.; Khaled Kashlan, BME, Suwanee, Ga.; and Shane Saunders,\n     ME, Moultrie, Ga.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EMagnetic\n     Assisted Intubation Device (MAID) \u003C\/strong\u003E\u2013 A creative approach to facilitate the\n     procedure of placing a breathing tube into the trachea: Alexander Cooper,\n     BME, Atlanta, Ga.;\n     Shawna Marie Hagen, BME, Middletown, N.J.; William Jacob Thompson, BME, Cornelia,\n     Ga.; and Elizabeth Ann Flanagan, BME, Douglas, Ga.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EProximer\n     \u003C\/strong\u003E\u2013\n     A device that cleverly detects hard plastics in\nthe body: Jenny Taylor, BME, Greenville,\nS.C.; Megan Richards, BME, Suwanee,\nGa.; and Michael Zhao, BME, Alpharetta, Ga\u003Cstrong\u003E.\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EVelociryder\u003C\/strong\u003E \u2013 A motorized,\n     self-balancing skateboard that takes the activity to a new level featuring\n     \u0026nbsp;two wheels instead of four: Aaron\n     Fan, EE (Electrical Engineering)\/Computer Science (CS), Ocoee, Fla.; Xo\n     Wang, EE\/CS, New York, N.Y.; and Jamison Go, ME\/EE, Orlando, Fla.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003ESlide\n     Capo \u003C\/strong\u003E\u2013\n     A new twist on a guitar capo that can create unique sounds: Daniel Chaney,\n     Industrial Design, Tucker, Ga.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EWaste\n     to Watts \u003C\/strong\u003E\u2013\n     Capitalizing on sustainability, this apparatus is created by reusing\n     discarded parts to devise a system that will provide much-needed power in third\n     world countries: James Molini, BME,\n     Newark, Del.; and Patrick Caputo, EE\/Physics, Gahanna, Ohio.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003C\/ul\u003E\n\n\n\n\u003Cp\u003ETwo\nwinning inventions will be selected on March 9 and the inventor or group will\nreceive:\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cul\u003E\u003Cli\u003EA\ncash prize of $15,000 for first place or $10,000 for second place\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EA\nfree U.S.\npatent filing by Georgia Tech\u2019s Office of Technology Licensing (each valued at\napproximately $20,000)\u003C\/li\u003E\u003C\/ul\u003E\n\n\n\n\n\n\u003Cp\u003EIn\naddition, a $5,000 \u201cPeople\u2019s Choice\u201d award, sponsored by NCR Corporation, will be presented. The live audience and broadcast\nviewers will have the opportunity to help select the winner of this award by\nvoting on the Internet or by text message.\n\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\n\n\u003Cp\u003EReturning\nas the InVenture Prize co-host, Miles O\u2019Brien is an award-winning 27-year\nbroadcast news veteran specializing in aviation, space, science, the\nenvironment and technology. He worked as a correspondent, anchor and producer\non CNN\u2019s \u201cScience and Technology Week,\u201d \u201cTalkback Live,\u201d \u201cHeadline News\nPrimetime\u201d and \u201cCNN American Morning.\u201d Recently named to the NASA Advisory\nCouncil, O\u2019Brien currently owns a production company in New York City that creates, produces and\ndistributes original content across all media platforms.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\n\n\u003Cp\u003EBahereh\nAzizi, also returning as a co-host, earned a bachelor\u2019s degree in\nbiochemistry\/biotechnology in 1999 from Michigan\nState University\nand then moved to Atlanta\nto pursue a doctoral degree from Georgia Tech in biochemistry. Since completing\nher Ph.D. in 2005, Azizi has worked at Georgia Tech and Oxford College of Emory\nUniversity as an educator, researcher and administrator. Her most recent focus\nhas been in the field of protein engineering and nuclear receptors.
