McKenney Family Associate Professorship, as announced by Georgia Tech\u0026rsquo;s H. Milton Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISyE). Prior to this appointment, Sun held an Anderson-Interface Early Career Professorship.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ESun\u0026rsquo;s research focuses on both theory and applications of deterministic\u0026nbsp;optimization and optimization under uncertainty. Much of his research concerns applications for energy systems, including resiliency of power systems.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EHe\u0026nbsp;has developed one of the first\u0026nbsp;efficient\u0026nbsp;algorithms for solving two-stage robust optimization problems that are significantly faster than Benders\u0026rsquo; decomposition; cutting plane methods for multistage robust linear optimization that are much more scalable than the duality approach; models for decision-dependent uncertainty; and a fast exact algorithm\u0026nbsp;(SDDiP) for multistage stochastic integer linear programming. Sun\u0026rsquo;s team is working toward developing new algorithms and complexity analysis for multistage stochastic and distributionally robust programs with integer decisions and nonlinear constraints, as well as first-order methods for nonconvex distributed and nonlinear optimization.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EIn particular, Sun has received recognition for his research on applications for energy systems. A Georgia Tech team led by \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.isye.gatech.edu\/news\/isye-team-places-third-national-arpa-e-go-competition\u0022\u003ESun won third place\u003C\/a\u003E in the 2020 ARPA-E Grid Optimization Competition for solving large-scale optimization problems for electric power grid operation. Additional awards include:\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cul\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003EBest Paper Award for publications in \u003Cem\u003EIEEE Transactions on Power Systems\u003C\/em\u003E (2017-19);\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003EINFORMS Energy, Natural Resources, and Environment (ENRE) Best Paper Award in Energy (2017, 2019);\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003EBest Paper Award in the Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences (HICSS) Energy Track (2018).\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\u003C\/ul\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ESun also received an \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.isye.gatech.edu\/news\/isye-anderson-interface-early-career-professor-andy-sun-awarded-prestigious-nsf-career-award\u0022\u003ENSF CAREER grant\u003C\/a\u003E in 2018.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n","summary":null,"format":"limited_html"}],"field_subtitle":"","field_summary":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EMuch of Sun\u0026#39;s research concerns applications for energy systems, including resiliency of power systems.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n","format":"limited_html"}],"field_summary_sentence":[{"value":"Associate Professor Andy Sun has been appointed to a David M.
