{"647153":{"#nid":"647153","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Jason Borenstein Elected to Board of Association for Practical and Professional Ethics","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003E\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/spp.gatech.edu\/people\/person\/79e785b1-0bad-5022-9bee-7126ced2c846\u0022\u003EJason Borenstein\u003C\/a\u003E, academic professional in the School of Public Policy, was recently elected to the Association for Practical and Professional Ethics (APPE) Board of Directors.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.appe-ethics.org\/\u0022\u003EAPPE\u0026rsquo;s\u003C\/a\u003E mission is to \u0026ldquo;support and train the next generation of ethics faculty and professionals, work to improve ethical conduct in our communities and workplaces, and advance public dialogue in ethics and values,\u0026rdquo; according to its website.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EBorenstein\u0026rsquo;s broad range of ethics research focuses on engineering, robot and artificial intelligence, responsible conduct of research, and bioethics. He is a co-principal investigator on a recent\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/ethics.gatech.edu\/projects\/institutional-transformation-role-service-learning-community-engagement\u0022\u003E project \u003C\/a\u003Efunded by the National Science Foundation, \u0026ldquo;Institutional Transformation: The Role of Service Learning and Community Engagement on the Ethical Development of STEM Students and Campus Culture.\u0026rdquo; The project seeks to determine if curricular community engagement impacts the moral and ethical maturation of students.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EAmong other work, Borenstein is also collaborating with Associate Professor Justin Biddle on a project to help engineering professors in Iraq build an ethics curriculum for their programs.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;I have been a member of APPE for many years now. APPE brings together scholars and practitioners from a broad range of fields.\u0026nbsp;It has created a vitally important, collegial, and informative network for those interested in applied ethics.\u0026nbsp;I am greatly honored to have been selected to serve on its Board of Directors,\u0026rdquo; said Borenstein, who is also director of graduate research ethics programs in the School of Public Policy and associate director of the \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/ethics.gatech.edu\/mission\u0022\u003ECenter for Ethics and Technology\u003C\/a\u003E.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EBorenstein was also recently appointed as the Research Integrity Scholars and Educators (RISE) Chair of APPE.
