Aggressive government investments and policy actions in the region offer the potential for exciting data and policy experiments in sustainable transportation, he said.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;Electric vehicle mobility continues to accelerate globally \u0026mdash; generating rapid industry transition and massive consumer data about how people get around following the introduction of electric cars,\u0026rdquo; Asensio said. \u0026ldquo;However, more sophisticated AI-powered tools are needed to leverage EV mobility data in ways that can allow us to understand behavior in real-time, and importantly, identify regional barriers to energy access in under-served or remote areas.\u0026rdquo;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EAs part of the project, students in Asensio\u0026rsquo;s \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/datasciencepolicy.gatech.edu\/\u0022\u003Elab\u003C\/a\u003E will train an AI model to classify EV mobility data automatically in multiple languages, including English, Thai, Malay, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, and Mandarin.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;This AI-powered approach, which will use deep neural networks, could allow for cross-lingual transfer learning about the effectiveness of EV charging policies at a much larger scale than is currently possible,\u0026rdquo; Asensio said.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EStudents who participate in the project will also have the opportunity to engage with State Department officials on climate change; economic and energy security; and science, technology, and innovation policy.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;We are delighted to collaborate with the U.S. State Department and the Diplomacy Lab on this project,\u0026rdquo; Asensio said. \u0026ldquo;It will serve as an excellent test bed to bring our expertise in policy analytics to important global issues.\u0026rdquo;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/diplomacylab.org\/\u0022\u003EDiplomacy Lab\u003C\/a\u003E is a public-private partnership between the U.S. State Department and select U.S. universities that enables the agency to harness the work of students and faculty to advance research and innovation related to foreign policy.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe State Department has chosen numerous Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts faculty for Diplomacy Lab projects.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EIn November, the agency chose teams led by two \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/modlangs.gatech.edu\u0022\u003ESchool of Modern Languages\u003C\/a\u003E faculty to help solve issues related to language curriculum development for diplomats.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EIn one, \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/iac.gatech.edu\/people\/person\/david-marcus\u0022\u003EDavid Marcus\u003C\/a\u003E, lecturer of Arabic, is leading a project related to high-frequency vocabulary in modern standard Arabic. \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/iac.gatech.edu\/people\/person\/kyoko-masuda\u0022\u003EKyoko Masuda\u003C\/a\u003E, associate professor of Japanese, is examining the use of function verbs in Japanese.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EIn addition to Asensio\u0026#39;s project, the State Department also awarded a bid to Sebnem Ozkan of the School of Modern Languages to examine\u0026nbsp;the role of Confucius Institutes in Turkey.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EPrevious projects include one led by \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/iac.gatech.edu\/people\/person\/neha-kumar\u0022\u003ENeha Kumar\u003C\/a\u003E of the \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/inta.gatech.edu\u0022\u003ESam Nunn School of International Affairs\u003C\/a\u003E related to the use of Bitcoin technology in foreign assistance;
