{"648082":{"#nid":"648082","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Week of Welcome Returns, How to Get Involved","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EIn August 2020,\u0026nbsp;Georgia Tech\u0026nbsp;hosted its inaugural Week of Welcome for\u0026nbsp;first-year students, inviting\u0026nbsp;them\u0026nbsp;to move in a week earlier than in previous years.\u0026nbsp;As\u0026nbsp;Georgia Tech refocuses on\u0026nbsp;returning to\u0026nbsp;in-person classes\u0026nbsp;and programming\u0026nbsp;this fall, Week of Welcome 2021\u0026nbsp;is slated\u0026nbsp;to\u0026nbsp;build\u0026nbsp;on\u0026nbsp;this new tradition\u0026nbsp;through partnerships between Campus Services, Student Life, Office of Undergraduate Education, the\u0026nbsp;Georgia Tech\u0026nbsp;Library, and\u0026nbsp;many\u0026nbsp;more.\u0026nbsp;Organizers\u0026nbsp;hope\u0026nbsp;to\u0026nbsp;expand programming this year\u0026nbsp;with the support of the Georgia Tech community.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;There is no better way to welcome our newest students than through a wide variety of events that reflect the diversity of our incoming student body,\u0026rdquo; said\u0026nbsp;Runyi\u0026nbsp;Wang, Student Center Program Council\u0026rsquo;s Week of Welcome Committee Chair. \u0026ldquo;We hope that incoming students will be able to find their community at Georgia Tech. By working closely with our campus partners, we are excited to offer events that cater to students\u0026rsquo; varying interests and needs to do exactly that.\u0026rdquo;\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe second annual\u0026nbsp;Week of Welcome kicks off with first-year move-in on Saturday, August 14, and Sunday, August 15, with events and programming starting the night of August 15. Second-year, new transfer, and new graduate students are invited to move in on Wednesday, August 18, with remaining upper-class residents moving in August\u0026nbsp;20\u0026nbsp;\u0026ndash; 21.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EFrom\u0026nbsp;August 16\u0026nbsp;\u0026ndash;\u0026nbsp;22,\u0026nbsp;students will\u0026nbsp;have the opportunity to\u0026nbsp;participate\u0026nbsp;in workshops, events, and outings to help get acclimated to life at Georgia Tech.\u0026nbsp;New\u0026nbsp;programming\u0026nbsp;will be offered for\u0026nbsp;second-years, new transfers, and new graduate students\u0026nbsp;beginning Thursday, August\u0026nbsp;19.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EAfternoons and evenings will be filled with\u0026nbsp;opportunities for\u0026nbsp;students to engage with one another and get to know their community.\u0026nbsp;RATS Night at the Library,\u0026nbsp;FASET\u0026nbsp;Social,\u0026nbsp;RecFest\u0026nbsp;at the Campus Recreation Center,\u0026nbsp;student organization\u0026nbsp;fairs,\u0026nbsp;Greek Recruitment, Grad Expo\u0026nbsp;and\u0026nbsp;Convocation,\u0026nbsp;are some of the many\u0026nbsp;events planned for the\u0026nbsp;week.\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;I loved the experience of presenting workshops\u0026nbsp;in 2020\u0026nbsp;and can\u0026#39;t wait to do it again\u0026nbsp;this\u0026nbsp;year,\u0026rdquo; said Bryan Gomez,\u0026nbsp;Residence Hall Association\u0026nbsp;President. \u0026ldquo;As\u0026nbsp;upper-class students, we sometimes forget how much we know about this campus and how much we\u0026nbsp;have to\u0026nbsp;share with the incoming class.\u0026nbsp;Week of Welcome is the perfect time to share the experiences you\u0026#39;ve gathered over your semesters here, calm a few nerves, and excite the next group of Yellow Jackets about all that there is to offer here at Tech!\u0026rdquo;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EDepartments, colleges, campus offices, and student organizations are invited to host\u0026nbsp;engaging and informative workshops to help share information with\u0026nbsp;students.\u0026nbsp;Programming will be featured on the event schedule in Guidebook.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EDr.\u0026nbsp;Chris Reaves, Executive Director of the Center for Academic Enrichment and\u0026nbsp;Director\u0026nbsp;of\u0026nbsp;the Undergraduate Research Opportunities \u0026amp; Student Innovation Programs\u0026nbsp;held a workshop during Week of Welcome last year that was so well-attended\u0026nbsp;it was offered multiple times throughout the week.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;Week of\u0026nbsp;Welcome\u0026nbsp;was\u0026nbsp;a great way\u0026nbsp;to kick off the fall semester. We had 680 students attend the workshops we offered in the Office of Undergraduate Education.
