Seven\nfinalists have been selected to compete for $35,000 in prize money and free\nU.S. patent filings. Students will present their inventions during a live\nGeorgia Public Broadcasting program televised from the Georgia Institute of\nTechnology\u2019s Robert Ferst Center for the Arts on March 9 at 7 p.m.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\n\n\u003Cp\u003EThe\n2011 InVenture Prize judges are:\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cul\u003E\u003Cli\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003ESara Blakely\u003C\/strong\u003E, founder and owner of Atlanta-based SPANX,\n     invented footless pantyhose after researching trademarks and patents at\n     the Georgia Tech Library. Since 1998, she has created more than 200\n     problem-solving products. Blakely has been named Ernst \u0026amp;\n     Young\u2019s Entrepreneur of the Year and Georgia\u2019s \u201cWoman of the Year.\u201d\u003C\/li\u003E\u003C\/ul\u003E\n\n\n\n\u003Cul\u003E\u003Cli\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EDeborah Kilpatrick\u003C\/strong\u003E is senior vice president at California-based\n     CardioDx, a privately held genomic medicine company focused on\n     cardiovascular disease. At Georgia Tech, Kilpatrick serves on several\n     advisory boards and was named to the Council of Outstanding Young\n     Alumni.\u0026nbsp; She holds multiple U.S.\n     patents and a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from Georgia Tech.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EGreg Foster\u003C\/strong\u003E is founder and CEO of\n     BrightWhistle, a marketing software company in Atlanta and an\n     entrepreneur-in-residence with Chrysalis Ventures. Foster is a member of\n     the Board of Trustees for the Georgia Tech Alumni Association, the Georgia\n     Council on Economic Education and the Bobby Dodd Foundation. He holds a B.S.\n     in mechanical engineering from Georgia Tech and an MBA from Harvard\n     Business School.\u003C\/li\u003E\u003C\/ul\u003E\n\n\n\n\u003Cul\u003E\u003Cli\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EDavid Phelps\u003C\/strong\u003E has served as president and\n     CEO of Kentucky-based CreoSalus, a peptide science company, since 2002. For\n     more than 25 years, his career has included significant management roles\n     with large life science (medical device, drug and bio-tech) companies. He\n     has developed more than 50 medical devices and has more than 25 patents\n     issued or pending. \u003C\/li\u003E\u003C\/ul\u003E\n\n\n\n\u003Cp\u003EReturning\nas the InVenture Prize co-hosts are Miles O\u2019Brien, an award-winning 27-year\nbroadcast news veteran specializing in aviation, space, science, the\nenvironment and technology; and Bahereh Azizi, a researcher and support manager in the School of Chemistry and Biochemistry.\u0026nbsp;\u003Cem\u003E\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/em\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\n\n\u003Cp\u003EFree\ntickets to the InVenture Prize broadcast are available at \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/inventureprize.gatech.edu\/tickets\u0022\u003Ehttp:\/\/inventureprize.gatech.edu\/tickets\u003C\/a\u003E.
