A capo attaches to the neck of a guitar to depress all the strings of one fret to change the keys of a song. The Tucker, GA, native and guitar hobbyist first imagined a combined accessory in 2010. He used the School of Industrial Design\u2019s workshop to make functional prototypes and guitarist friends for usability testing. \u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EChaney received mentorship and guidance from industrial design instructor Stephen Chininis, veteran inventor and designer. With Chininis\u2019 expertise, Chaney was able to estimate the actual manufacturing cost of the Slide Capo\u2014likely less than $5 per unit.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003E\u201cWith Slide Capo it\u2019s so easy to understand,\u201d said Sarah Blakely, founder of Spanx slimming apparel, and one of four expert judges. \u201cIt\u2019s got great marketability\u2014it could be in the marketplace tomorrow.\u201d\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EOnce the technology is patented, Chaney hopes to sell the idea to an established manufacturer such as Gibson or Dunlop. \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.slidecapo.com\/\u0022\u003ERead more about the Slide Capo.\u003C\/a\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EEach year, the InVenture Prize offers incentives, resources and a structure for undergraduate student innovation and entrepreneurship at Georgia Tech.
