These disciplines lie right at the intersection of what makes energy systems work.\u202f I absolutely love doing research and my research areas\u0026nbsp;\u0026ndash; making fire, saving the planet, pointing lasers and high-speed cameras\u202fat complex facilities, what more could you ask for?\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EWhat makes the way in which SEI enables campus energy research unique?\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EGeorgia Tech has over 300 faculty and 1000 researchers working on energy.\u202f The key role of\u202fSEI is to promote this work, build communities across campus, and assist in developing\u0026nbsp;greater\u0026nbsp;resources through larger federal and corporate opportunities.\u202fOne of the things I like most about this job, is that my success is measured by that of the Georgia Tech team as a whole- and it is\u0026nbsp;an extremely high\u0026nbsp;performing team!\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EWhat couldn\u0026rsquo;t have happened without SEI?\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EGeorgia Tech\u0026rsquo;s energy innovations have had an enormous footprint \u0026ndash; solar cells, artificial intelligence for optimizing complex energy systems\u0026nbsp;and\u0026nbsp;energy storage,\u0026nbsp;just to name a few.\u202f SEI works hard to make faculty aware of external opportunities with the government and companies, and to develop and frame issues that we think are important. I personally spend a lot of time working with organizations across campus\u0026nbsp;developing\u0026nbsp;corporate connections, national lab connections\u0026nbsp;and\u0026nbsp;federal connections\u0026nbsp;to help build the success of SEI.\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EWhat impact is Georgia Tech\u0026nbsp;energy research having on the world?\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EGeorgia Tech\u0026nbsp;energy research has had a huge impact on virtually every part of the energy ecosystem \u0026ndash; both in terms of generation of power, transmitting\/moving\/storing energy to users, and the consumption of energy.\u202f In addition to technologies and basic science, our systems level perspectives that incorporate policy, economics, and human behavior have been critical in framing national thinking about deployment of renewables.\u202f Our faculty have developed IP, started up nationally leading companies, and\u0026nbsp;have created crucial\u0026nbsp;partnerships\u0026nbsp;in developing and deploying these innovations.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EWhat do you like to do in your spare time when you are not working on your research or teaching?\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EI\u0026nbsp;enjoy the outdoors and particularly enjoy\u0026nbsp;trail running,\u0026nbsp;rock\u0026nbsp;climbing\u0026nbsp;and gardening.
