{"650635":{"#nid":"650635","#data":{"type":"news","title":"And Not a Minute Too Soon","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EWith large swaths of the country engulfed in flames, battered by winds, steeped in floodwaters, or parched by drought \u0026ndash; tragic and costly conditions that a recent \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.ipcc.ch\/report\/ar6\/wg1\/\u0022\u003EUnited Nations report\u003C\/a\u003E links to global warming \u0026ndash; Georgia Tech is looking forward to hosting the third annual \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/globalchange.gatech.edu\/global-climate-action-symposium-2021\/\u0022\u003EGlobal Climate Action Symposium\u003C\/a\u003E, Sept. 27 \u0026ndash; 29. \u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EBringing together a wide range of local and global experts to showcase climate change solutions, the event will be held in a fully virtual, online format for the second year due to the pandemic.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe online format has truly put the \u0026ldquo;global\u0026rdquo; in Global Climate Action Symposium, says Selena Langner, communications director for Georgia Tech\u0026rsquo;s Global Change Program, which spearheads the event in partnership with Tech\u0026rsquo;s Serve-Learn-Sustain, the Atlanta Global Studies Center, and six European consulates in Atlanta (France, Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands, the U.K., and Belgium).\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;One thing we learned during Covid,\u0026rdquo; Langner says, \u0026ldquo;was the benefit of having something virtual, beyond the sustainability aspect. The first year, we featured a mix of global and local experts, but our audience was inherently limited to the Tech community. When we went virtual last year, we reached attendees from 20 different countries.\u0026rdquo;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EFree and open to all, each day of the symposium will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and focus on a specific aspect of the climate challenges ahead (see inset). Each session features a keynote speaker, a panel discussion, \u0026ldquo;Lightning Talks\u0026rdquo; by students and organizations, and a Masterclass.
