Computing has remained compelling over the years\u202fas it has\u202fafforded me the opportunity to pursue problem spaces\u202fthat reflect my identity\u202fand\u202fexperiences while engaging\u202fmy communities.\u202fTrusted and secure information access,\u0026nbsp;transparency, and consumption for decision-making in\u202fmaternal health, family\u202fadvocacy, and\u202fpopulation health is\u202fmy jam.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EWhat makes Georgia Tech Research Institute unique?\u202f\u202f\u202f\u202f\u202f\u202f\u202f\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EAmazingly, I have been at GTRI for 16 years, this longevity is due to three\u0026nbsp;main things:\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EFirst, GTRI is a place for learners and\u202fthe curious. We\u0026nbsp;have the\u202fability to\u0026nbsp;pursue\u202fresearch in multiple domains which\u202fallows the problems that we solve to evolve and mature\u202fas we do.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ESecond, given the\u202fprioritization\u202fon\u202flearning and\u202fcuriosity, we can work alongside inspiring\u202fresearchers and students\u202fon problems that matter now and\u0026nbsp;in the near future. The proximity to innovation mixed with the ability to effect immediate change is thrilling.\u202f\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThird, over my time at GTRI, I have raised a family and obtained\u202fa graduate degree, all while moving from researcher to Principal Investigator, from member to manager, from Research Scientist I to Principal Research Scientist. I am not saying\u202fthat\u202fwe can have it all, but we can do a lot!\u0026nbsp;\u202f\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EWhat impact is your research having on the world?\u202f\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe\u202fimpact our research has is\u202fbridging the\u202fgaps that reside in physical, political,\u202fprocess, and people systems.\u202fIn the end, we want decision makers to have the right information\u202fto make informed decisions and relay consumable\u202finformation to their population - whether it be their family, community,\u0026nbsp;state, or country.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EWhat do you like to do in your spare time when you are not working on your research or teaching?\u202f\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EWhether I am at work or at home, I love to participate in, build, and\u0026nbsp;sustain\u202fcommunities. Specifically, I enjoy running, biking, hiking, kayaking,\u202fand\u202forange theory fitness. I teach a\u202f4th grade girls small group, serve\u202fas an usher for the Fox Theatre, and lead a local chapter focused on women in computing.
