{"65176":{"#nid":"65176","#data":{"type":"news","title":"General Assembly Sets Final Day","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EAmidst the continuing discussions of\nsome of the session\u2019s most pressing issues, the 2011 General Assembly has set\nthe day on which those conversations will cease.\u0026nbsp; In a resolution passed last week, the\u0026nbsp; House and Senate agreed to meet for\nlegislative day 40 and adjourn \u201csine die\u201d on Thursday, April 14.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EAfter the adjournment, any\nlegislation that is not passed or failed will hang in limbo until 2012.\u0026nbsp; Since this session is the first of a two-year\nlegislative term, these\u0026nbsp; bills and resolutions\nwill simply remain in their committees until next year.\u0026nbsp; Measures that are not acted upon in the\nsecond year of a term die after day 40. \u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EThough many pieces of legislation\nface uncertain fates for 2011, the FY2012 budget is one bill that will be at\nthe top of the General Assembly\u2019s list for passage.\u0026nbsp; HB78, the budget bill, looks to be on track\nfor timely consideration.\u0026nbsp; The Senate\nAppropriations Committee meets today to pass it out for debate on the Senate\nfloor. \u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EThough most members will return to\ncommitments in their districts after the adjournment, they will almost certainly\nfind themselves back in Atlanta later this year.\u0026nbsp; The legislature is expected to return for a\nspecial session in the late summer for the reapportionment of legislative\ndistricts that is spurred by the decennial census.\u0026nbsp; \u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EGeorgia\u2019s constitution requires that\nthe legislature meet for 40 \u201clegislative days\u201d each spring beginning the second\nMonday of January.\u0026nbsp; These 40 days can be\nallocated at the will of the General Assembly and typically do not run\nconsecutively.\u0026nbsp; This year when the\nlegislative session adjourns, 94 calendar days will have elapsed. \u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\n\nLast year\u2019s session made history as the\nlatest-running legislature in more than 120 years.\u0026nbsp; The General Assembly adjourned on April 30,\n110 calendar days after it began.\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E","summary":null,"format":"limited_html"}],"field_subtitle":"","field_summary":"","field_summary_sentence":[{"value":"Adjournment \u201cSine Die\u201d set for April 14; FY12 budget awaiting action in the State Senate"}],"uid":"27331","created_gmt":"2011-03-28 10:04:32","changed_gmt":"2016-10-08 03:08:26","author":"George Ray","boilerplate_text":"","field_publication":"","field_article_url":"","dateline":{"date":"2011-03-28T00:00:00-04:00","iso_date":"2011-03-28T00:00:00-04:00","tz":"America\/New_York"},"extras":[],"hg_media":{"65175":{"id":"65175","type":"image","title":"General Assembly Sets Final Day","body":null,"created":"1449176801","gmt_created":"2015-12-03 21:06:41","changed":"1475894577","gmt_changed":"2016-10-08 02:42:57","alt":"General Assembly Sets Final Day","file":{"fid":"192185","name":"1223905322_img_0838.jpg","image_path":"\/sites\/default\/files\/images\/1223905322_img_0838_0.jpg","image_full_path":"http:\/\/www.tlwarc.hg.gatech.edu\/\/sites\/default\/files\/images\/1223905322_img_0838_0.jpg","mime":"image\/jpeg","size":3720890,"path_740":"http:\/\/www.tlwarc.hg.gatech.edu\/sites\/default\/files\/styles\/740xx_scale\/public\/images\/1223905322_img_0838_0.jpg?itok=1RxbZ0Dl"}}},"media_ids":["65175"],"groups":[{"id":"47398","name":"GCR (Office of Government and Community Relations)"}],"categories":[],"keywords":[{"id":"7784","name":"Georgia General Assembly"},{"id":"8300","name":"Georgia Tech Office of Government and Community Relations"},{"id":"167343","name":"State Budget"}],"core_research_areas":[],"news_room_topics":[],"event_categories":[],"invited_audience":[],"affiliations":[],"classification":[],"areas_of_expertise":[],"news_and_recent_appearances":[],"phone":[],"contact":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EGeorge Ray\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EGCR Associate\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u003Ca href=\u0022mailto:george.ray@gatech.edu\u0022\u003Egeorge.ray@gatech.edu\u003C\/a\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E","format":"limited_html"}],"email":["george.ray@gatech.edu"],"slides":[],"orientation":[],"userdata":""}}}
