{"652205":{"#nid":"652205","#data":{"type":"news","title":"The Student Center is Everywhere ","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003ELast\u0026nbsp;year while many members of our community were away from campus, the Student Center team, building, and services\u0026nbsp;underwent\u0026nbsp;some\u0026nbsp;big changes\u0026nbsp;you may not have noticed.\u0026nbsp;The Campus Center Project\u0026nbsp;continues to\u0026nbsp;progress towards completion\u0026nbsp;in\u0026nbsp;late Summer 2022,\u0026nbsp;and at the same time\u0026nbsp;the team behind the building\u0026nbsp;is\u0026nbsp;growing\u0026nbsp;and changing\u0026nbsp;in preparation for the exciting road ahead.\u0026nbsp;Here\u0026rsquo;s\u0026nbsp;what you may have missed about the Student Center\u0026rsquo;s reach\u0026nbsp;beyond the Student Center:\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EThe\u0026nbsp;Exhibition\u0026nbsp;Hall\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe Exhibition Hall, one of the new facilities built in phase one of the Campus Center project, has\u0026nbsp;been open for a\u0026nbsp;more than a year.\u0026nbsp;This\u0026nbsp;46,000ft\u003Csup\u003E2\u003C\/sup\u003E\u0026nbsp;building,\u0026nbsp;located\u0026nbsp;across from the ISYE building and next to the Student Center Parking Deck, is built to serve the meeting and conference needs of the entire community.\u0026nbsp;In its\u0026nbsp;short history\u0026nbsp;this facility\u0026nbsp;has\u0026nbsp;already\u0026nbsp;become\u0026nbsp;a\u0026nbsp;magnet for\u0026nbsp;campus events like\u0026nbsp;Midnight\u0026nbsp;Breakfast,\u0026nbsp;resource\u0026nbsp;fairs, and the vaccine clinic.\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EMany services have been housed\u0026nbsp;in the Exhibition Hall\u0026nbsp;temporarily while the Student Center is closed for renovations,\u0026nbsp;so the community can look forward to the opening of four\u0026nbsp;new meeting spaces\u0026nbsp;and full use of the\u0026nbsp;12,000ft\u003Csup\u003E2\u003C\/sup\u003E\u0026nbsp;Midtown ballroom space\u0026nbsp;once the transition of services to the Student Center is complete and final work is done on the rooms.\u0026nbsp;Those spaces will be open to the community for reservations starting in Spring 2022.\u0026nbsp;More about the spaces\u0026nbsp;that are available\u0026nbsp;for use now and those coming in Fall 2022\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/studentcenter.gatech.edu\/exhibition-hall-rooms\u0022 rel=\u0022noreferrer noopener\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022\u003Ecan be found\u0026nbsp;at this link.\u003C\/a\u003E\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EThe *NEW* Student Center\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EWatching from over the\u0026nbsp;fence line, the community will see the new and improved Student Center and Stamps Commons take\u0026nbsp;shape\u0026nbsp;over the\u0026nbsp;rest\u0026nbsp;of this academic year.\u0026nbsp;Construction\u0026nbsp;is currently on\u0026nbsp;schedule to be\u0026nbsp;complete\u0026nbsp;next summer, so the building\u0026nbsp;is expected to be\u0026nbsp;open to welcome students\u0026nbsp;and the community once again in Fall 2022.\u0026nbsp;Registration\u0026nbsp;for hard hat tours of the Student Center\u0026nbsp;is\u0026nbsp;now full,\u0026nbsp;but more spots will be available in Spring 2022.\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EWhen it opens, the completed Student Center will include eight\u0026nbsp;new meeting rooms, as well as a\u0026nbsp;small theater with\u0026nbsp;165-retractable seats,\u0026nbsp;297-seat\u0026nbsp;performance\u0026nbsp;theater, and the bowling and billiards areas of the new Tech Rec.\u0026nbsp;Each room\u202fin the new Student Center\u0026nbsp;is\u0026nbsp;named after one of Atlanta\u0026rsquo;s major streets, chosen by student vote.\u0026nbsp;Reservations for\u202fall spaces within the Student Center will be open to the campus community\u202fin Spring 2022.\u202fUntil then,\u202fthe community can\u0026nbsp;explore\u202fthese\u202ffuture spaces online\u0026nbsp;by following the\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/studentcenter.gatech.edu\/student-center-rooms\u0022 rel=\u0022noreferrer noopener\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022\u003Elinks on this page\u003C\/a\u003E\u0026nbsp;to find\u0026nbsp;renderings,\u0026nbsp;capacity\u0026nbsp;information, and more.\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003ENew\u0026nbsp;Buildings Means New Team\u0026nbsp;Name\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EWith the completion of the Campus Center project, the portfolio of spaces managed by the Student Center team\u0026nbsp;will include five buildings and\u0026nbsp;portions of the campus\u0026rsquo; outdoors.\u0026nbsp;This growth in scope\u0026nbsp;precipitates a clarifying change in name for the\u0026nbsp;team of\u0026nbsp;more than 100 people\u0026nbsp;that manage it. Now\u0026nbsp;called\u0026nbsp;the\u0026nbsp;\u003Cem\u003EStudent and Campus Event Centers\u003C\/em\u003E\u0026nbsp;team, this\u0026nbsp;unit\u0026nbsp;will continue to focus on\u0026nbsp;providing\u0026nbsp;high quality spaces for the community to gather and life-shaping opportunities for our students to grow and\u0026nbsp;develop.\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;Our overall mission has not changed,\u0026rdquo; say Dr. Lindsay Bryant, senior director of the team. \u0026ldquo;We are still here to help build\u0026nbsp;a strong sense\u0026nbsp;of campus community through our wide variety of services. The Student \u0026amp; Campus Event Centers team will continue to do this daily with the students, faculty, and staff we serve in our spaces.\u0026rdquo;\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe community\u0026nbsp;will\u0026nbsp;start to see the new\u0026nbsp;name\u0026nbsp;appear\u0026nbsp;in the coming\u0026nbsp;months, but\u0026nbsp;contact information for\u0026nbsp;those in need of assistance\u0026nbsp;remains the same.\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EThe Pavilion\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ENestled in the greenspace between the Instructional Center and the W02 Student Center Parking Deck\u0026nbsp;you\u0026rsquo;ll\u0026nbsp;find a collection of smaller buildings that include the Rising Roll Caf\u0026eacute;, Burdell\u0026rsquo;s and\u0026nbsp;DePoe\u0026nbsp;Optical, and both the Student Center and Student Engagement team offices.\u0026nbsp;In addition to these community must-haves, the space around the Pavilion\u0026nbsp;features some of the best outdoor seating on campus.\u0026nbsp;When\u0026nbsp;the Student Center renovations are\u0026nbsp;complete, all\u0026nbsp;Pavilion\u0026nbsp;services except for the\u0026nbsp;caf\u0026eacute;\u0026nbsp;will\u0026nbsp;move\u0026nbsp;into new\u0026nbsp;homes in\u0026nbsp;the Student Center. More details about what will be installed in the Pavilion after that,\u0026nbsp;including a\u0026nbsp;new\u0026nbsp;and improved\u0026nbsp;Paper \u0026amp; Clay (campus creative studio),\u0026nbsp;will be available in Spring 2022.\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EThe Historic Academy of Medicine\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ENot everyone in the community knows about the team\u0026rsquo;s\u0026nbsp;historic gem of an event space,\u0026nbsp;located\u0026nbsp;at the edge of campus in Midtown.
