As the ninth founding partner of NeurotechEU, Georgia Tech-Lorraine joins\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/theneurotech.eu\/founders\u0022\u003Eeight elite universities\u003C\/a\u003E\u0026nbsp;throughout Europe including the\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.ox.ac.uk\/\u0022\u003EUniversity of Oxford\u003C\/a\u003E\u0026nbsp;and the\u0026nbsp;Karolinska Institutet (Karolinska Institute). Combined with over 250 industry partners, the NeurotechEU\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/theneurotech.eu\/mission\u0022\u003Emission\u003C\/a\u003E\u0026nbsp;aptly states that it is creating \u0026ldquo;a trans-European network of excellence in brain research and technologies to increase the competitiveness of European education, research, economy, and society.\u0026rdquo;\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EA Neuroscience Network\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nOfficially established in January of 2020, NeurotechEU is the product of the\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/education\/education-in-the-eu\/european-education-area\/european-universities-initiative_en\u0022\u003EEuropean Universities Initiative\u003C\/a\u003E\u0026nbsp;funded by the European Commission, and is the first neuroscience- and fifth engineering-focused European university system of its kind.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;European universities go beyond the boundaries of universities and countries to bring universities around Europe together for research, education, and innovation,\u0026rdquo; explains \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/research.gatech.edu\/tansu-celikel-appointed-school-psychology-chair\u0022\u003ETansu Celikel\u003C\/a\u003E, chair of NeurotechEU\u0026rsquo;s Board of Governors and the\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/research.gatech.edu\/tansu-celikel-appointed-school-psychology-chair\u0022\u003Enew chair\u003C\/a\u003E\u0026nbsp;of the\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/psychology.gatech.edu\/\u0022\u003ESchool of Psychology\u003C\/a\u003E\u0026nbsp;at\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.gatech.edu\/\u0022\u003EGeorgia Tech\u003C\/a\u003E.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EAiming to enhance the competitiveness and the quality of European higher education, this initiative provides funding to create networks of universities throughout Europe that come together to address major societal challenges through collaborative research and education. In addition to joining a vast network of committed partners, Georgia Tech-Lorraine will have access to this funding from the European Universities initiative as a founding partner of NeurotechEU.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ECelikel says he is pleased to add Georgia Tech-Lorraine\u0026rsquo;s technical knowledge to the European University\u0026rsquo;s network. \u0026ldquo;The university is called The European University of Brain Science and Technology, but there were no partnerships with technical universities before Georgia Tech-Lorraine,\u0026rdquo; he notes. \u0026ldquo;Georgia Tech-Lorraine is bringing the technical expertise that is currently lacking.\u0026rdquo;\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EOne aspect of Georgia Tech-Lorraine\u0026rsquo;s technical expertise that Celikel highlights is the\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/kippelengroup.gatech.edu\/institut-lafayette\/\u0022\u003ELafayette Institute\u003C\/a\u003E, an extension of Georgia Tech\u0026rsquo;s \u0026ldquo;Innovation Ecosystem\u0026rdquo; dedicated to the innovation and commercialization of optoelectronics technology. \u0026ldquo;They have the equipment, facilities, and infrastructure to contribute uniquely to developing new technologies. By bringing together engineers with researchers and medical professionals under the NeurotechEU umbrella, this partnership is poised to advance the state of art in medical technologies.\u0026rdquo;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EGeorgia Tech-Lorraine also houses\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/umi2958.gatech.edu\/\u0022\u003EGeorgia\u003C\/a\u003E\u0026nbsp;Tech \u0026ndash; CNRS IRL 2958, an international research laboratory formed between Georgia Tech and the French\u0026nbsp;\u003Cem\u003ECentre National de la Recherche Scientifique \u003C\/em\u003E(CNRS) with research focused on nine areas of expertise, from smart materials and secure networks research to aerospace and robotics.
