The award, administered by the \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/cccc.ncte.org\/\u0022\u003EConference on College Composition and Communication (CCCC),\u003C\/a\u003E recognizes exemplary college writing programs.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;The Writing and Communication Program at Georgia Tech is defined by its effort to provide its students and faculty with innovative, human-centered perspectives at the intersection of humanities, arts, social sciences, and STEM,\u0026rdquo; the CCCC selection committee stated in a press release. \u0026ldquo;Moreover, the committee felt this was a strong innovation program comprised of award-winning educators, researchers, and students who draw on the benefits of a technologically focused research program and an impactful liberal arts experience.\u0026rdquo;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ETo be eligible for this award, programs must meet the following criteria:\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cul\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003EDemonstrate that the program imaginatively addresses the needs and opportunities of its students, instructors, institution, and locale\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003EOffer exemplary ongoing professional development for faculty of all ranks, including adjunct\/contingent faculty; treat contingent faculty respectfully, humanely, and professionally\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003EUse the current best practices in the field\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003EShow that the program administrator (chair, director, coordinator, etc.) has academic credentials in writing\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003EUse effective, ongoing assessment\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003EUse effective placement procedures\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003ECreate appropriate class sizes\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003EModel diversity and\/or serve diverse communities\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\u003C\/ul\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe writing committee for the award application included\u0026nbsp;Marion L. Defining features of the WCP are the Naugle Communication Center and the Marion L. Brittain Postdoctoral Fellowship, which offers three-year, highly selective postdoctoral teaching fellowships to 35 Ph.D. recipients who wish to develop professionally and innovate in areas of teaching, research, and service.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe Certificate of Excellence is only the most recent award for the program.
