We were honored to host distinguished guests including \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/modlangs.gatech.edu\/events\/item\/651957\/genocide-survivorship-reconciliation-conversation-with-kizito-kalima\u0022\u003EKizito Kalima\u003C\/a\u003E, founder and executive director of the Peace Center for Forgiveness \u0026amp; Reconciliation; child holocaust survivor George Rishfeld; and Anthropocene dramaturgs \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/modlangs.gatech.edu\/events\/item\/652185\/climate-crisis-contemporary-culture-anthropocene-theatre\u0022\u003EDuncan Evennou, Fr\u0026eacute;d\u0026eacute;rique A\u0026iuml;t Touati, and Clemence Hall\u0026eacute;\u003C\/a\u003E.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EIn the spring, we celebrated our faculty members, Britta Kallin, Lee Oh, and Satomi Suzuki Chenoweth, who were each awarded the \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/modlangs.gatech.edu\/news\/item\/645989\/nine-ivan-allen-college-faculty-honored-teaching-excellence\u0022\u003EStudent Recognition of Excellence in Teaching: Class of 1934 CIOS Award\u003C\/a\u003E. Adele Douglin, GLACT postdoctoral fellow, was recognized for their teaching achievements with the \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/modlangs.gatech.edu\/news\/item\/645989\/nine-ivan-allen-college-faculty-honored-teaching-excellence\u0022\u003ECenter for Teaching and Learning\u0026rsquo;s inaugural \u0026ldquo;Honor Roll\u0026rdquo; award\u003C\/a\u003E.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EDuring the summer, the renewal of our \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/modlangs.gatech.edu\/news\/item\/649002\/project-grant-awarded-fund-language-programming-rotc-training-georgia-tech\u0022\u003EProject Global Officer (Project GO) grant\u003C\/a\u003E by the \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/dlnseo.org\/\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022\u003EU.S. Department of Defense\/Defense Language and National Security Education Office (DLNSEO)\u003C\/a\u003E deepened our commitment to connecting globally by providing language training to cadets across the nation in Korean, Japanese, and Russian.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThis fall, we said a bittersweet goodbye to \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/iac.gatech.edu\/news\/item\/648157\/anna-stenport-named-dean-college-liberal-arts-rochester-institute\u0022\u003Eour former chair, Anna Stenport\u003C\/a\u003E, who was named Dean of the College of Liberal Arts at Rochester Institute of Technology. We were pleased to name David Shook, associate professor of Spanish with over 30 years\u0026rsquo; experience in various leadership roles at Georgia Tech, as interim chair to serve for two years while we conduct an international search for a new chair.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe fall semester also saw the launch of \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/iac.gatech.edu\/news\/item\/647656\/ivan-allen-college-schools-launch-minors\u0022\u003Etwo new interdisciplinary minors\u003C\/a\u003E, African Studies and Latin American and Latinx studies (LAT), and the hiring of the following faculty:\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cul\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003EDr. Miguel Rosas Buendia, Assistant Professor of Spanish\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003EDr. Lu Liu, Assistant Professor of Chinese\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003EBrigitte Stepanov, Assistant Professor of French\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003EHongchen Wu, Assistant Professor of Chinese\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003EBae Yoon (Becky) Keung, Assistant Professor of Korean.\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\u003C\/ul\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EAdditionally, our alumni demonstrated success as global leaders. Ted Danowitz, B.S. IAML-Chinese 2010, was the recipient of \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/modlangs.gatech.edu\/news\/item\/645731\/ivan-allen-college-celebrates-distinguished-alumni\u0022\u003Ethe Ivan Allen College Distinguished Alumni Awards\u003C\/a\u003E for the School of Modern Languages.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EOur staff also excelled as industry professionals.
