{"653875":{"#nid":"653875","#data":{"type":"news","title":"2021: LMC\u2019s Year in Review","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EAs we come to the end of another semester in the School of Literature, Media, and Communication (LMC), and the end of another year filled with twists and turns, we want to take a moment to reflect on our accomplishments in 2021.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThis summer, we welcomed \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/iac.gatech.edu\/news\/item\/649072\/melissa-ianetta-appointed-interim-chair-school-literature-media\u0022\u003EMelissa Ianetta as interim chair\u003C\/a\u003E to lead us through the next year while we conduct an international search for a new chair. The summer also saw the \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/iac.gatech.edu\/news\/item\/647751\/version-literature-media-communication-book-length-calling-card-debuts\u0022\u003Erelease of the second edition\u003C\/a\u003E of our book-length \u0026ldquo;calling card,\u0026rdquo; \u003Cem\u003EHumanistic Perspectives in a Technological World. \u003C\/em\u003EThe book features essays from faculty addressing various topics in their fields including Black media studies, media arts, and communication, writing, and technology\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EIn the fall semester, we celebrated \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.lmc.gatech.edu\/news\/item\/652488\/dramatech-tackles-pandemic-love-information\u0022\u003Ethe return of in-person performances\u003C\/a\u003E by our student-run theater, DramaTech, and their production of \u003Cem\u003ELove \u0026amp; Information.\u003C\/em\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EOur faculty were recognized numerous times for their innovation and leadership. Here are just a few highlights. Marion L. Brittain Fellow Julia Tigner was awarded the \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.lmc.gatech.edu\/news\/item\/645198\/ivan-allen-faculty-take-honors-teaching-awards\u0022\u003EGeorgia Tech Sustainable Communities Teaching Awards: People\u0026#39;s Choice Selection by Serve-Learn-Sustain\u003C\/a\u003E, Director of the Writing and Communication Program Andy Frazee was named a \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.lmc.gatech.edu\/news\/item\/653449\/ivan-allen-faculty-named-provost-fellows-faculty-development\u0022\u003EProvost Fellow for Faculty Development\u003C\/a\u003E, and Ianetta received the \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.lmc.gatech.edu\/news\/item\/642116\/writing-communication-program-ianetta-receive-high-profile-awards\u0022\u003EMaxwell Award\u003C\/a\u003E with Lauren Fitzgerald, director of the Wilf Campus Writing Center at Yeshiva University.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EOur alumni also distinguished themselves in their professional careers. Steven Norris, M.S. Global Media and Cultures-French 2021, had his \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.lmc.gatech.edu\/news\/item\/651245\/documentary-global-media-cultures-alumnus-steven-norris-debuts-atlanta-film\u0022\u003Edocumentary film \u003Cem\u003EEuromerica\u003C\/em\u003E debut as part of the Academy Award-qualifying Out on Film festival in Atlanta\u003C\/a\u003E.
