{"654397":{"#nid":"654397","#data":{"type":"event","title":"Artist-In-Residence Workshop Series: Mapping the Text","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003E\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/library.gatech.edu\/news\/tech-library-partners-renowned-artist-deanna-sirlin\u0022\u003EArtist-in-Residence Deanna Sirlin\u003C\/a\u003E kicks off her residency at the Georgia Tech Library Jan. 24 with an open collaborative workshop entitled \u0026ldquo;Mapping the Text.\u0026rdquo;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EInspired by quotes from Frank Herbert\u0026rsquo;s landmark novel \u003Cem\u003EDune\u003C\/em\u003E, the workshop acts as response to and appreciation of \u0026ldquo;\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/library.gatech.edu\/50-years-of-scifi\u0022\u003E50 Years of Science Fiction at Georgia Tech\u003C\/a\u003E,\u0026rdquo; a collaboration between the Library and the Literature, Media and Communication program in the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThis asynchronous drop-in workshop, open through Feb. 18, allows participants to \u0026ldquo;make and take\u0026rdquo; a collage kit or stay and create their collage in the space. Once finished, they will digitally photograph the work for manipulation into a collage.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ESirlin will virtually present a short introduction to the concept of collage in the history of art, using images of work by artists from Giuseppe Arcimboldo to contemporary artists such as Julie Mehretu, Ed Ruscha, and Veja Celmins.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EIn January, Georgia Tech Library announced the first partnership in its Artist-in-Residence program, tapping world-renowned, multi-media visionary Deanna Sirlin to conceptualize, plan and execute a series of student-focused workshops throughout the Spring semester.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EAdditionally, she will create a major artwork in dialogue with the Library\u0026rsquo;s collection and new building.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ESirlin will work with students virtually and in the Library\u0026rsquo;s second-floor Artist-in-Residence (AIR) space to create work for installation.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EABOUT DEANNA SIRLIN\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ESirlin received an MFA in Painting from Queens College, following a BA in Art from SUNY Albany.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EShe has received grants and awards from the Judith Alexander Foundation; the Nexus Fund; US Artists; Georgia Chapter of The National Museum of Women in the Arts; The US State Department; and a Creative Capital Warhol Foundation award. Sirlin has had artist residencies at Yaddo; the Mark Rothko Centre, Latvia; the Cini Foundation Venice,\u0026nbsp;Italy;\u0026nbsp;Padies\u0026nbsp;Foundation,\u0026nbsp;Lempaut, France; and the City of Nuremberg, Germany.
