  <title><![CDATA[Superhero Movies and the State: Understanding the “Marvel”ous  Government-Entertainment Complex]]></title>
  <body><![CDATA[<p>Tricia Jenkins, professor of film, television, and digital media at Texas Christian University, will be giving a lecture as part of the Sam Flax Lecture Series on Public Policy.</p>

<p>This talk will explore the movies of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to illustrate how Hollywood&nbsp;works with various government agencies to affect public policy and influence public opinion.&nbsp; Movies will include&nbsp;<em>The Avengers, Captain Marvel, Black Panther, Iron Man</em>&nbsp;and others, while the government agencies addressed will&nbsp;include the Department of Defense, the Science and Entertainment Exchange, the Central Intelligence Agency and NASA.&nbsp;Attendees will learn just how deep U.S. government influence in the world&rsquo;s most popular entertainment franchise runs and how those franchises, in turn, help the U.S. government achieve a myriad of its own agendas.</p>
