Georgia Tech and Georgia Veterans Memorial Park Foundation Team Up to Deliver Interactive Visualizations of “Walk of Heroes” Veterans War Memorial

A 3-D interactive visualization of the “Walk of Heroes” Veterans War Memorial in Rockdale County, Ga., was designed by Imagine Lab researchers in the Georgia Tech College of Architecture to engage community members and to encourage ongoing philanthropic support for the memorial.

Foundation Chairman Tommy Clack and fellow board members will use the 3-D visualization to explain the project, a three-acre memorial designed to foster public understanding of the dedication of veterans and their families.

“Every community project must bridge a divide separating a mission of status-quo to the other side where the mission incorporates a state-of-the-art tool and accomplishes all goals in a superior and faster time frame,” said Clack. “The team at Georgia Tech has given our memorial that bridge."

Clack concluded, “To everyone at Georgia Tech, we thank you for a superior effort and trusts that everyone involved understands your finished product will grant us success in short order!”

The visualization features a timeline animation showcasing the progress of the memorial site from 1988 to the future. It also highlights the Master Plan of the memorial designed by Rockdale County-based Breedlove Land Planning; as well as a museum and conference center conceptually being designed by Breedlove Land Planning with LP3 consulting.

“The memorial will help accentuate the county's heritage and provide a major boost to our local economy by attracting thousands of new visitors to the area,” said Rockdale County Chairman and CEO Richard A. Oden. “Working with the Georgia Tech team was truly a pleasure due to their professionalism, creativity and enthusiasm for the project.”

Supporters can get involved by making a tax-exempt donation to the Georgia Veterans Memorial Park Foundation, or purchase an engraved paver to be placed on the Walk of Heroes at www.georgiaveteransmemorial.com.

About the “Walk of Heroes” Veterans War Memorial

The “Walk of Heroes” Veterans War Memorial is located on a three-acre site within Black Shoals Park, adjacent to Randy Poynter Lake in Rockdale County. This serene setting provides the perfect backdrop for visitors to remember, reflect and rejoice as well as foster a common understanding of the sacrifices and uncommon dedication of veterans and their families. Now twenty percent complete, the Memorial currently features an amphitheater; entrance gateway and vestibule; and a 1,500-feet-long “Walk of Heroes” path constructed of pavers and marble bands. Other features yet to be built include the “Warfront” and “Homefront” sections that will emphasize the sacrifices veterans, both home and abroad, have made over the 20th and 21st centuries to secure our freedom. Outdoor classrooms also will be constructed to educate visitors about each of the last six major conflicts including World Wars I and II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Persian Gulf War, and the Global War on Terror.
