Art & AI VIP Takes Win at 2022 VIP Innovation Competition

The Art & AI Vertically Integrated Project (VIP) team co-advised by Mark Leibert, professor of the practice in the School of Literature, Media, and Communication, and Ethan Trewhitt, research engineer in the Georgia Tech Research Institute, won first place in the Systems, People, and Environment category at the Georgia Tech 2022 VIP Innovation Competition.

For the competition, students submitted videos explaining their projects based on the Hellmeir Questions, a set of nine questions that engineer George Heilmeir proposed researchers or product developers should be able to answer. Industry experts judged the entries.

Kyle Barone, a fourth-year computer science major, and Claire Matheny, a second-year computer science major, created the winning video for the Art & AI team.

“The team did a great job explaining that while others have worked within this field before, their ‘spin’ and innovative take on the industry is focused on integrating their audio reactive software within the text image generation program they’ve built to create really beautiful music videos,” the judges commented.

The Art & AI team’s video is available on Mediaspace.
