The summer programs are weeklong camps designed to increase science, technology, art, engineering, and mathematics knowledge through various educational experiential activities ranging from coding and 3D game design to robotics and supply chain/logistics. More than 45 camps, the combined total of both campuses, are uniquely themed. Georgia Tech faculty, staff, and students as well as K-12 educators and industry professionals will serve as instructors.

The Atlanta summer offerings for rising 2^nd-12^th graders include on-campus sessions through Summer P.E.A.K.S. (Programs for Enrichment and Accelerated Knowledge in STEAM). Virtual sessions, called STEAM Whistle Workshops, provide live instruction, self-paced project work, and team-building activities.

“Our programs have a proven track record of increasing students’ interest in STEAM and STEM.,” said Sirocus Barnes, CEISMC director of student programs. “Our programs allow students to have similar experiences as scientists and engineers. In our programs, students create solutions, make, design, redesign, and solve complex problems in a fun and engaging learning environment.”

The Savannah summer offerings for rising 3^rd graders through high school include in-person sessions only such as Girls Engineering Camp in partnership with the Society of Women Engineers or Exploring Music through STEM in partnership with the Savannah Philharmonic.

“To create relevant, and real-world applicable programming we are partnering with several local businesses along with the local chapter of the Society of Women Engineers and Savannah Philharmonic,” said Timothy Cone, CEISMC Savannah program director. “These partnerships mean that students participating in our programs will have a better understanding of how STEM and STEAM skills relate to their future careers.”   

CEISMC also received Building Opportunities in Out-of-School Time (BOOST) funding that will be used to provide scholarships for underrepresented and underserved students to attend the in-person sessions in Atlanta and Savannah. Funding for the BOOST program comes from the American Rescue Plan, and the grant program is administered by the Georgia Department of Education in partnership with the Georgia Statewide Afterschool Network (GSAN).
