65879 news 1304093917 1475896118 <![CDATA[Casey Dawkins (PhD ’03) is elected to ACSP’s Governing Board]]> Congratulations to Casey Dawkins on election to the Governing Board of the Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning (ASCP). Dawkins, who earned a PhD in City and Regional Planning from Georgia Tech in 2003, will be the Southeast Regional Representative, serving a two-year term.  This is one of ten regional positions on the board representing five geographical regions of the U.S. in addition to four officers that comprise the remainder of the board.

The Governing Board is ACSP’s leadership body, responsible to set policy and manage the affairs of the  association. Regional Representatives are responsible for bringing issues unique to their respective regions to the attention of the Governing Board.

ACSP’s President (and past Georgia Tech Professor and Director) Cheryl Contant  describes the association as a service that supports “planning education, outreach, and research for all the faculty and students in our member schools. These include our annual conference, workshops for new faculty and doctoral students, task forces and special committees to pursue new and important initiatives.”

Dawkins is Associate Professor of Urban Studies and Planning and Associate Director of the National Center for Smart Growth at the University of Maryland, College Park.
