The new interdisciplinary research\n institute consolidates multiple electronics and nanotechnology research\n centers and related programs into an organization designed to enhance \nsupport for rapidly growing programs spanning biomedicine, materials, \nelectronics and nanotechnology. \u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u201cWhile each existing center will continue to be responsible for its own \nspecific programs, IEN will provide a single point of entry for industry\n and government organizations that seek to leverage Georgia Tech\u2019s \nintellectual capabilities and a projection point for greater thought \nleadership in this significant research domain,\u201d Cross said. \u201cFrom a \npractical standpoint, we can also maximize cost efficiencies by sharing \nequipment and facilities, while more effectively utilizing current \npersonnel to facilitate more rapid expansion of the research.\u201d\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe IEN will be led by Executive Director Mark Allen. Under his \nleadership, the new center will focus on integrating existing center \npersonnel and equipment into the Marcus Nanotechnology Building and \nother nearby spaces. \u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EAccording to Cross, IEN builds on the \nvision and leadership established by Nanotechnology Research Center \nDirector James Meindl, who has positioned Georgia Tech as a global \nleader in this area. \u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u201cGeorgia Tech applauds his dedicated \nleadership and insight, which will both play a key role in the \nInstitute\u2019s renewal of related NSF-funded programs,\u201d Cross said.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EPatterned\n after the highly successful Parker H.
