Georgia Tech ECE Programs Move Up in Undergraduate Rankings; Electrical Engineering Is Top Ranked Public Program

Both undergraduate academic programs in the Georgia Tech School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) rose to their highest-ever positions in the 2023 U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges rankings released Sept. 12.

Electrical engineering moved up two places to No. 2, a record high. Computer engineering moved up one spot to No. 4, matching the program’s high set in 2020.

Among public universities, Tech’s electrical engineering is the top program in the country for the first time ever. Computer engineering remained the No. 2 public program.

“These exciting rankings affirm our overarching vision to lead in the creation and development of intellectual and human capital in electrical and computer engineering,” said Arijit Raychowdhury, Steve W. Chaddick School Chair. “The combination of size, diversity, and quality of ECE’s undergraduate programs make us a premier destination for students and faculty members looking to solve societal-level challenges in a transformative and impactful way.”

Overall, Georgia Tech’s College of Engineering is ranked No. 4 in the country — continuing a seven-year streak in that spot — and again tied with the California Institute of Technology. Among public universities, the College is No. 2 in the country. For the first time, seven of the College’s undergraduate programs are ranked second or better in the nation, and all are in the top five.

Individual engineering discipline rankings are based solely on surveys of deans and faculty members at other universities. The U.S. News rankings are one indicator of the quality of an institution and can influence undergraduates, professors, prospective students, peer institutions, and the media.
