{"662653":{"#nid":"662653","#data":{"type":"news","title":"New Events and Initiatives Promote Transparency and Promotion in Equity and Compliance","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EAs this year marks the 50\u003Csup\u003Eth\u003C\/sup\u003E anniversary of Title IX, the landmark federal law that prevents discrimination on the basis of sex, the \u003Cstrong\u003E\u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/equity.diversity.gatech.edu\u0022\u003EOffice of Equity and Compliance Programs\u003C\/a\u003E\u003C\/strong\u003E is partnering with several campus units and divisions to highlight the impact of this law on Georgia Tech and higher education.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EIn 2019, \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/diversity.gatech.edu\/news\/georgia-techs-institute-diversity-renamed-institute-diversity-equity-and-inclusion\u0022\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003Ethe offices of Title IX and ADA were re-organized into one office, Equity and Compliance Programs,\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/a\u003E and moved under the umbrella of \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/diversity.gatech.edu\u0022\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EInstitute Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/a\u003E. Equity and Compliance Programs\u0026rsquo; goal is to ensure non-discriminatory behaviors on the basis of sex, gender identity, and disability on Georgia Tech\u0026rsquo;s campus.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EWhen Alexis Martinez, executive director of Equity and Compliance Programs arrived at Tech in summer 2021, she expressed a desire for more transparency between her office and the campus community. To support that commitment, Equity and Compliance Programs released an inaugural \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/equity.diversity.gatech.edu\/sites\/default\/files\/2022-10\/Equity%20and%20Compliance%20Programs%2021-22%20Annual%20Report%20-%20Accessible.pdf\u0022\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003Eannual report\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/a\u003E highlighting the work the office has done in the past year.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;It\u0026rsquo;s a delicate balance,\u0026rdquo; Martinez explained. \u0026ldquo;The nature of our work is extremely sensitive, and there are many factors that prevent us from sharing full details of cases with the community.
