The analytically minded student with a 4.0 GPA was searching for digraphs and consonant blends that might help him determine the correct answer.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;P-L is a common combination at the beginning of words,\u0026rdquo; he explained. That kind of thoughtful gameplay helped Howard sweep every puzzle round, winning nearly $20,000 in cash and two trips \u0026mdash; to Hawaii and South Africa.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;I knew every time I would spin I had a 15% chance of landing on \u0026lsquo;lose a turn\u0026rsquo; or \u0026lsquo;bankrupt,\u0026rsquo;\u0026rdquo; he said. So if he felt confident in his ability to solve the puzzle, he\u0026rsquo;d go for it.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EHe auditioned virtually back in January after seeing an advertisement on the game show. It was August when the show\u0026rsquo;s producers called to let him know he\u0026rsquo;d be appearing. \u0026ldquo;My 13-year-old sister helped quiz me to get ready,\u0026rdquo; Howard laughed. She found a website with hundreds of old final round puzzles, and she\u0026rsquo;d write them on a dry erase board to help him hone his skills.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThat preparation paid off, as Howard was one of just two College Week contestants \u0026nbsp;to solve the final puzzle. After the correct guess, Pat Sajak revealed that he had won the grand prize, a new car. The Mini Cooper happened to be painted red and black, to the dismay of many Georgia Tech fans and faithful who tuned in to cheer on the Yellow Jacket. But there\u0026rsquo;s good news to report.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;I don\u0026rsquo;t have to take that specific car,\u0026rdquo; Howard said. \u0026ldquo;I can pick whichever color I like.\u0026rdquo; He confirms that it won\u0026rsquo;t be red and black.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EAs for his plans for the car, \u0026ldquo;It\u0026rsquo;s probably going to go to my little sister.\u0026rdquo; He may hold on to it for a while since she\u0026rsquo;s not old enough to drive, but when she passes her driver\u0026rsquo;s test, he will hand the keys over to her.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EAnd as for the trips? \u0026ldquo;Mom will go with me on one and Dad on the other,\u0026rdquo; he confirmed. \\\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EHoward plans to use the cash as he finishes his undergraduate degree and looks forward to pursuing a master\u0026rsquo;s at Tech as well. For now, he\u0026rsquo;s enjoying the moment and appreciates all the support he\u0026rsquo;s received online and on campus.
