Carpantato (Tanta) T. Myles will serve as the first associate vice president for Research Integrity Assurance (AVP-RIA) starting Aug. 1. \u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cspan\u003E\u003Cspan\u003E\u003Cspan\u003E\u003Cspan\u003EThe AVP-RIA is responsible for the Institute\u2019s overall strategy to ensure research compliance, foster a culture of research integrity, and promote the responsible conduct of research both domestically and internationally. Myles is currently director of the Office for Research Compliance at the University of Alabama, where she has spent the past 18 years.\u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cspan\u003E\u003Cspan\u003E\u003Cspan\u003E\u003Cspan\u003E\u201cI am thrilled to have been selected as the associate vice president for Research Integrity Assurance at Georgia Tech,\u201d Myles said. \u201cI look forward to working with the research administrative team, staff, students, and researchers to build on the established foundation of research integrity. Collectively, we will work toward the critical balance between cutting-edge research that pushes boundaries and requirements related to research compliance.\u201d\u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cspan\u003E\u003Cspan\u003E\u003Cspan\u003E\u003Cspan\u003EAs AVP-RIA, Myles will develop and implement regulatory research compliance programs and operational strategies to ensure that current policies and procedures minimize and reduce the risk of noncompliance. To do this, she will coordinate research compliance and risk management activities with key Georgia Tech stakeholders and develop a streamlined experience for researchers, staff, and students. The new role will report to the chief research operations officer (CROO), serving as a key member of the CROO\u0027s leadership team.\u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cspan\u003E\u003Cspan\u003E\u003Cspan\u003E\u003Cspan\u003E\u201cWe are thrilled to have Tanta at Georgia Tech,\u201d said Robert Butera, CROO. \u201cShe brings with her decades of research administration experience and will establish new policies to ensure Georgia Tech meets compliance standards befitting a top research university, while being responsive to the ever-changing needs of the novel, cutting-edge research being conducted by our faculty.\u201d\u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cspan\u003E\u003Cspan\u003E\u003Cspan\u003EPreviously at the University of Alabama, Myles served as research integrity officer, research compliance officer, and acting director of animal care. She holds an adjunct faculty position at Johns Hopkins University, where she teaches in their master\u2019s program in research administration. Myles is active in national research administrative organizations. Most recently, her engagement with the National Council of University Research Administrators includes serving as a peer reviewer, region III chair, and senior issues contributing editor for \u003Cem\u003ENCURA Magazine\u003C\/em\u003E. \u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cspan\u003E\u003Cspan\u003E\u003Cspan\u003EShe has also worked at the University of Alabama-Birmingham, first as a research associate in anesthesiology and later as a special assistant to the vice president for Research.\u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cspan\u003E\u003Cspan\u003E\u003Cspan\u003E\u003Cspan\u003EMyles holds a bachelor\u2019s in biology from the University of Alabama- Birmingham, an M.S. in management from Troy University, and is currently a doctoral candidate in higher education administration at the University of Alabama.\u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n","summary":"","format":"limited_html"}],"field_subtitle":"","field_summary":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EThe Georgia Institute of Technology has created a new position to ensure research compliance within the research enterprise.
