The national-level higher education cyber competition was facilitated over a two-round virtual hacking experience for 39 student and staff teams. \u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cspan\u003E\u003Cspan\u003E\u003Cspan\u003EThe event drew close to 100 participants from ten colleges and universities from across the state of Georgia. \u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/span\u003E\u003Cspan\u003E\u003Cspan\u003E\u003Cspan\u003EParticipating institutions included: Atlanta Technical College, Augusta University, Columbus State University, Emory University, Georgia State University, Georgia Tech (and the Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI)), Kennesaw State University, Middle Georgia State University and Savannah State University.\u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cspan\u003E\u003Cspan\u003E\u003Cspan\u003E\u003Cspan\u003E\u003Cspan\u003EParticipants solved \u201ccapture the flag\u201d challenges, designed to help sharpen cybersecurity skills and knowledge. \u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cspan\u003E\u003Cspan\u003E\u003Cspan\u003E\u201cThe Southeastern Cyber Cup was a fun way to highlight the importance of cybersecurity as a \u003Cem\u003Ecommunity\u003C\/em\u003E responsibility \u2013 a responsibility that\u2019s not the job of just one person,\u201d said Chief Information Security Officer Leo Howell. \u201cTeams got the chance to learn how to spot \u003C\/span\u003E\u003Cspan\u003Eweb vulnerabilities and participate in various exercises on topics such as cryptography, forensic investigations, and incident response,\u0022 continued Howell. \u0022Next year, the competition will be bigger and better!\u201d\u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cspan\u003E\u003Cspan\u003E\u003Cspan\u003E\u003Cspan\u003E\u003Cspan\u003EDeloitte served as the inaugural event\u0027s partnering sponsor. \u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/span\u003E\u003Cspan\u003EAdditional sponsors included Elastic, Fortinet, and Splunk.\u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cspan\u003E\u003Cspan\u003E\u003Cspan\u003ETeam \u2018A Family that Hacks Together Stacks Together\u2019 from Georgia Tech took top place in the competition.
