<value>
The objective of this research is to develop new power converters as a universal onboard solution for electric vehicles, specifically for vehicle-to-everything (V2X) applications. With the rapid development of EV-related technologies, the adoption rate and total energy storage of EVs have increased significantly. Such advancement leads to a wide discussion of exploiting the EV battery energy storage for other EVs, loads, and the grid. However, with a variety of charging infrastructures, battery voltages, and types of loads, significant system complexity, external application-specific hardware, and software customization need to be included for the existing approaches, limiting the practicality and economic viability of V2X applications. It is thus needed for an onboard solution that provides a universal access point for all the charging and V2X applications with minimum hardware and software customization. This requires the onboard power converter to be compatible with existing and new charging solutions across a wide range of voltages and bidirectional power flows. This research study proposes novel minimal-structure power converters compatible with legacy and future charging solutions as well as V2X applications. Such a solution will allow EVs to operate as an energy hub to realize the prospect where EVs and electrified transportation are to be a ubiquitous part of our energy ecosystem.
