A linear and a non-linear prompting system are being compared to\ndetermine if one is more effective than the other. In both systems, there is a\nsequence of tasks that need to be performed. In the linear prompting system,\nthe individual must determine if the task has been performed and then hit a\nbutton to check it off the list and proceed to the next task. In the non-linear\nsystem, we have developed a tool that automatically determines if the task has\nbeen performed. The tool uses environmental sensors to know what steps have\nbeen completed. If the task has been completed, the next step is automatically\npresented. In addition to task advancement, the automated prompting systems can\nrecognize basic error scenarios. The job that was chosen to test the prompting\nsystem involves packaging novelty Chocolate First Aid Kits. Our hypothesis is\nthat the non-linear system will enable persons with cognitive disabilities to\nperform more effectively (fewer errors) and more efficiently (decreased time to\ncomplete a task).\u003C\/p\u003E","summary":null,"format":"limited_html"}],"field_subtitle":[{"value":"Joint Tech - U.Colorado research to overcome cognitive disabilities"}],"field_summary":"","field_summary_sentence":[{"value":"CATEA and the University of Colorado are jointly investigating a system that may open up assembly jobs to workers with cognitive disabilities."}],"uid":"27202","created_gmt":"2011-06-23 16:24:47","changed_gmt":"2016-10-08 03:09:37","author":"David Morton","boilerplate_text":"","field_publication":"","field_article_url":"","dateline":{"date":"2011-06-23T00:00:00-04:00","iso_date":"2011-06-23T00:00:00-04:00","tz":"America\/New_York"},"extras":[],"hg_media":{"68498":{"id":"68498","type":"image","title":"CAPS: Context Aware Prompting System for Persons with Cognitive Disabilities","body":null,"created":"1449177176","gmt_created":"2015-12-03 21:12:56","changed":"1475894594","gmt_changed":"2016-10-08 02:43:14","alt":"CAPS: Context Aware Prompting System for Persons with Cognitive Disabilities","file":{"fid":"192588","name":"caps21.jpg","image_path":"\/sites\/default\/files\/images\/caps21_0.jpg","image_full_path":"http:\/\/www.tlwarc.hg.gatech.edu\/\/sites\/default\/files\/images\/caps21_0.jpg","mime":"image\/jpeg","size":45437,"path_740":"http:\/\/www.tlwarc.hg.gatech.edu\/sites\/default\/files\/styles\/740xx_scale\/public\/images\/caps21_0.jpg?itok=VNLBYUrl"}}},"media_ids":["68498"],"groups":[{"id":"1221","name":"College of Design"}],"categories":[],"keywords":[],"core_research_areas":[],"news_room_topics":[],"event_categories":[],"invited_audience":[],"affiliations":[],"classification":[],"areas_of_expertise":[],"news_and_recent_appearances":[],"phone":[],"contact":[],"email":[],"slides":[],"orientation":[],"userdata":""}}}
