{"68671":{"#nid":"68671","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Asia-Pacific Science Prize Open for Scientists Under 40","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EStudents,\nfaculty and staff younger than 40 are encouraged to apply to a new award\ncentered around green growth in research.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\n\n\u003Cp\u003EThe \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.apec.org\u0022\u003EAsia-Pacific Economic\nCooperation forum\u003C\/a\u003E (APEC)\nis an organization of 21 Pacific-Rim countries, including the U.S., working to\nfacilitate economic growth, cooperation, trade and investment in the\nAsia-Pacific region. The APEC Science Prize for Innovation, Research and\nEducation (ASPIRE Prize) will honor a scientist who has demonstrated a\ncommitment to excellence in scientific research, cooperated with scientists\nfrom other APEC-member economies and contributed to this year\u2019s theme of green\ngrowth. \u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EThe\nASPIRE Prize includes $25,000 and travel to the Joint Ministerial Meeting on\nEnergy and Transportation in San Francisco in September, where Secretary of\nEnergy Steven Chu will present the award. Any U.S.\ncitizen is eligible to be nominated for the ASPIRE Prize and must be under the\nage of 40 as of Dec. 31.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EBecause APEC is limiting the\nnumber of nominations from the U.S., the group requests that each university\nsubmit one nominee.\u0026nbsp;Dr. Karen Adams in the Georgia Tech Fellowships Office\nwill convene a committee to select Tech\u2019s nominee. \u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\n\n\u003Cp\u003EThe campus deadline for\napplicants is Monday, July 18, in anticipation of the national submission\ndeadline on Sunday, July 24.
