Israel, III, was named\nPresident and Chief Executive Officer of the Ferst Foundation for Childhood\nLiteracy (FFCL) in July 2011. \u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\n\n\u003Cp\u003EFrom 2002 to 2010 he served as\npresident and CEO of the Georgia Chamber of Commerce.\u0026nbsp; During this time, membership levels topped\n4,000, the Georgia Chamber saw near perfect lobbying efforts on behalf of\nbusiness at the State Capital, and Mr. Israel led the Georgia Chamber through a\ntransformative reorganization known as the \u201cGeorgia Initiative\u201d. \u0026nbsp;Prior to joining the Georgia Chamber, Israel\nserved as a chief executive both in government and business. At just 31 years\nold, he was elected Mayor of Macon, Georgia\u2019s sixth largest city, and he held\nthis position from 1979 until 1987. Israel rose to prominence in the national\nRepublican party after being elected President of the Republican Mayors and\nLocal Officials in 1981. He was appointed by President Reagan to serve on the\nExecutive Committee of the Republican National Committee in 1982 and to chair\nthe President\u2019s reelection campaign.\u0026nbsp; \u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\n\n\u003Cp\u003EDuring his time as Mayor, he earned\na reputation for being fiscally conservative, fair minded, and of the highest\nintegrity \u2013 qualities that led him to a series of leadership positions in real\nestate and healthcare after leaving office.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\n\n\u003Cp\u003EIsrael has also served on the\nBoard of Directors for a number of organizations including the Georgia Allies,\nthe Georgia Partnership for Excellence in Education and the Georgia Cities Foundation.\nHe is a Board Advisor for the Georgia Department of Economic Development and\nserves as a member of the Georgia Military Affairs Coordinating Committee. He\nis an active member of the United States Chamber of Commerce.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cem\u003EAbout the Impact\nSpeaker Series\u003C\/em\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003ESince 2002, the IMPACT Speaker Series has brought highly successful business\nleaders from a variety of industries to campus to share their experiences and\ngive advice to students and other entrepreneurs on topics ranging from\n\u0022building a venture around intellectual capital\u0022 to \u0022successful\nentrepreneurship in large organizations\u0022 and \u0022socially responsible\nleadership\u0022. \u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EThe weekly series provides Georgia Tech students, alumni and the Atlanta\nbusiness community an opportunity to network and learn from successful\nentrepreneurs, venture capitalists, and notable business and non-profit\nleaders.
