In this\ncapacity he is directly responsible for enabling, influencing and defending the\nintegrity of the Linux ecosystem. Central to the achievement of his goals is\nthe acquisition and transfer of patent rights designed to permit members of the\nLinux ecosystem to operate free of the threat of assertion and litigation from those\nwhose business models are antithetical to innovation and global economic growth\nin information technology and computing.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\n\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EPrior to joining the Open Invention Network\u00ae, Mr.\nBergelt served as president and CEO of two Hedge Funds \u2013 Paradox Capital and\nIPI \u2013 formed to unlock the considerable asset value of patents, trademarks and copyrights\nin middle market companies. These funds enabled the emergence of patents, trademarks\nand copyrights as a viable source of collateral in asset-based loans, forever\nreshaping the emerging IP Finance landscape.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\n\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EMr. Bergelt holds an Artium Baccalaureus degree from\nDuke University, a Jurist Doctorate degree from Southern Methodist University\nSchool of Law and a Masters of Business Administration degree from Theseus Institute\nin France. \u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cem\u003EAbout the Impact\nSpeaker Series\u003C\/em\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003ESince 2002, the IMPACT Speaker Series has brought highly successful business\nleaders from a variety of industries to campus to share their experiences and\ngive advice to students and other entrepreneurs on topics ranging from\n\u0022building a venture around intellectual capital\u0022 to \u0022successful\nentrepreneurship in large organizations\u0022 and \u0022socially responsible\nleadership\u0022. \u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EThe weekly series provides Georgia Tech students, alumni and the Atlanta\nbusiness community an opportunity to network and learn from successful\nentrepreneurs, venture capitalists, and notable business and non-profit\nleaders.
