The event — which calls itself “a celebration of all things DIY” — will feature the skills and creations of a variety of makers from the region, including blacksmithing, kinetic sculptures, robots and 3D printers. About 50 makers will be in attendance with their wares, including many from the Tech community. This smaller version of larger Maker Faires that have been held in Detroit, New York and California gives the event its “mini” moniker.

“I thought Atlanta would be a great place for a Mini Maker Faire because there haven’t really been any in the South before, and I know the South is filled with just as many makers and crafters as the rest of the country,” said Eric Weinhoffer, the ME student organizing the event. “Georgia Tech is an extremely good location to host an event like this, thanks to the technological advancements that come out of the Institute every year. The school itself is an inspiration to makers.”

The event is free to attend and will welcome students, faculty, staff and guests in the Manufacturing Related Disciplines Complex (MRDC) parking lot, Saturday, Sept. 10, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Most makers will be exhibiting their work, but some will have creations for sale as well.
