{"69860":{"#nid":"69860","#data":{"type":"event","title":"Erato Reading Series Features Two Atlanta Poets","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EErato, Georgia Tech\u0027s journal of art and literature, will host a book reading by poets Beth Gylys and Jennifer Wheelock from 6 - 7 p.m. Mon., September 12. \u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EBoth award-winning poets on the local and national scene, Gylys and Wheelock will read from their most recent works. This event will take place in the Georgia Tech Library Neely Room on the first floor. \u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003ECurrently, Gylys is a professor at Georgia State University. She has published two award winning collections of poetry: \u0022Spot in the Dark\u0022 (Ohio State UP 2004) and \u0022Bodies that Hum\u0022 (1999 Silverfish Review Press), and two chapbooks: \u0022Matchbook\u0022 (La Vita Poetica 2007) and \u0022Balloon Heart\u0022 (Wind Press 1998). She was awarded fellowships from the MacDowell Colony, The University of Cincinnati, and Syracuse University. Additionally, she has had work published in many journals including \u0022Paris Review,\u0022 \u0022Antioch Review,\u0022 \u0022Kenyon Review,\u0022 \u0022Ploughshares,\u0022 \u0022Boston Review,\u0022 and \u0022The Southern Review.\u0022\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe poetry of Jennifer Wheelock, who currently works at Emory University, has appeared in journals and anthologies, such as \u0022River Styx,\u0022 \u0022Garbanzo,\u0022 \u0022The Peralta Press,\u0022 \u0022Atlanta Review,\u0022 \u0022The Emily Dickinson Award Anthology,\u0022 and the online journal \u0022Blaze.\u0022 She placed third in the 2008 River Styx International Poetry Contest, was second-prize winner in the Art in the Air Poetry Contest in 2004, and a semi-finalist in the 2003 Steel Toe Books competition. Her poem \u0022Feeding Francis Bacon\u0022 appeared in the book \u0022Thirteen Ways of Looking for a Poem: A Guide to Writing Poetry,\u0022 in the chapter on formal verse.
