The announcement was made at\nthe Pearson Student Leadership Summit, held at the Smithsonian in Washington,\nD.C. on Aug. 15.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EThe Pearson Prize recognizes excellent students who have\ndistinguished themselves by working towards their undergraduate degree and also\nserving the community. The Pearson Foundation has awarded the Pearson Prize for\nHigher Education to 70 students from universities and colleges across the\nUnited States.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EOriginally from Jamaica, LaMont\ngraduated with an associate\u2019s degree in chemical engineering from Broward\nCollege. He was a member of the Honors Institute and a campus and regional Phi\nTheta Kappa officer at Broward College. He was involved in\ncommunity services, such as: coordinating a cultural project, conducting leadership\nworkshops, mentoring peers, fundraising for cancer survivors, participating in\nliteracy programs and advocating the TerraCycle program, which engages\nvolunteers in recycling while raising money for a campus scholarship fund.\u0026nbsp;He is currently continuing his studies in chemical and biomolecular engineering at Georgia Tech.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u0026nbsp;The Pearson\nPrize supports the Pearson Foundation\u2019s commitment to students, lifelong\nlearning, community service and leadership.
