On Oct. 1, participants in the\n13th annual Dream Mile 5K will wind through campus to benefit local child\nservices nonprofits.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EThe Dream Mile, started by Tech students, is one of a series\nof Dream Mile races that take place across the country. The Atlanta race benefits\nChildren\u2019s Healthcare of Atlanta and Vibha, a nonprofit that supports education\nand health programs in the U.S. and India. Last year, the local race had its\nhighest participation to date, with 1,400 runners, and raised more than\n$100,000. \u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003E\u201cThis event is organized entirely by volunteers and has a\nfun family atmosphere,\u201d said Samir Patel, a postdoctoral fellow in chemical and\nbiomolecular engineering organizing this year\u2019s race. Music and carnival-style\ngames will be available after the race, and all race participants receive a\nt-shirt, chip timing and refreshments.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EThe Dream Mile begins at the Biotechnology Quad on Ferst\nDrive and loops through the interior streets of campus; a full race map is\navailable at The Dream Mile\u2019s website. For those who may not be interested in\nthe walk\/run aspect of the event, they may still participate in a pledge drive\nfor the race beneficiaries.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EThe 2011 Dream Mile begins at 7 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1; registration\nis $25 until Sept. 25, and $30 until the day of the race.
