{"70267":{"#nid":"70267","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Students Campaign to \u0027Keep the T in Tech\u0027","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EStealing the T from Tech Tower has long been heralded as a Yellow\nJacket tradition, but some students are upset to see that tradition take a\ntwist on campus.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003E\u201cThe problem with stealing T\u2019s started a couple of years ago\nfrom occasional spots on campus. In the last six months or so it has escalated,\nit\u2019s all over campus, and there are no T\u2019s anywhere,\u201d said Elle Creel,\npresident of the undergraduate Student Government Association (SGA).\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003ECreel is referring to the disappearance of the letter \u201cT\u201d\nfrom signage across campus. The trend spans from metal T\u2019s attached to exterior\nwalls of buildings, to vinyl adhesive T\u2019s affixed to dorm and bus stop signs.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003ESGA is encouraging students to assume the role of keepers of\nTech tradition throughout this week with a campaign to \u201cKeep the T in Tech.\u201d\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003E\u201cThe tradition is only the Tech Tower T,\u201d said Creel.\n\u201cStealing any other T on campus is manipulating the tradition.\u201d According to\nthe 2011-12 T-Book, \u201cthe specific T to be stolen [from Tech Tower] is the one\nfacing the I-75\/85 highway \u2026 However, contrary to popular belief, this\ntradition does not include stealing T\u2019s from around campus and execution\nthereof will result in disciplinary action.\u201d\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EWednesday, students are invited to \u201crelive the real\ntradition\u201d at 8:30 p.m. by the steam engine on Cherry Street, next to Tech\nTower, though SGA is not disclosing the details on how this will take place;\nCreel said it will be \u201ca chance to see the true tradition with your own eyes.\u201d\nStudents are also being offered amnesty on Wednesday for any\npast thefts, a transgression that would normally land them in the Office of\nStudent Integrity. Instead, they may bring any stolen T\u2019s to Tech Walk between\n11 a.m. and 2 p.m., where they will be collected in the Ramblin\u2019 Wreck.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003ESGA will devote the open forum of its weekly Tuesday meeting,\nat 7 p.m. in room 117 of the Flag Building, to discussion of this campus issue.\nStudents also may voice their opinions by signing an electronic pledge to \u201cKeep\nthe T in Tech\u201d at \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/sga.gatech.edu\/t\u0022\u003Esga.gatech.edu\/t\u003C\/a\u003E. Signatures will be collected through\nWednesday and will be published in Friday\u2019s Technique.
