Problem Solving in the Classroom

When we teach courses that involve a significant mathematical problem-solving component, we are faced with a dilemma. We know it is necessary to illustrate solution techniques in the classroom. However, we also know it's important not to stand the whole period with our back to the class while facing the whiteboard and solving problems. This session will demonstrate alternative methods for teaching problem-solving techniques that allow us to stay engaged with the students in class. Come join the discussion, and bring ideas that work in your discipline as well.

Teaching for Learning across the Disciplines

There are many ways to teach students effectively. Four faculty will discuss what they want students in their classes to know, understand, and be able to do, and then share examples of the experiences they create to achieve these learning outcomes. Following the panel discussion, participants will be invited to ask questions, suggest adaptations of the strategies under discussion, and contribute new ideas to this "best practices" exchange.

"Just in Time" T-Square

This is a hands-on introductory session for faculty who will use T-Square in their classes for the first time when Fall Semester begins on August 23rd. Learn the basics necessary for getting off to a good start-and then gather ideas about possibilities to try out in the near future.
