{"70909":{"#nid":"70909","#data":{"type":"event","title":"Advanced Manufacturing Partnership at Georgia Tech","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EThe first regional meeting of the \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/administration\/eop\/ostp\/pcast\/amp\u0022\u003EAdvanced Manufacturing\nPartnership (AMP)\u003C\/a\u003E is being held at the Georgia Tech Hotel and Conference Center.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe AMP is being developed based on the recommendation of\nthe \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/administration\/eop\/ostp\/pcast\u0022\u003EPresident\u2019s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST)\u003C\/a\u003E, which\nreleased a report on June 24, 2011 entitled \u201cEnsuring Leadership in Advanced\nManufacturing.\u201d\u0026nbsp; The PCAST report calls for a partnership between\ngovernment, industry, and academia to identify the most pressing challenges and\ntransformative opportunities to improve the technologies, processes and\nproducts across multiple manufacturing industries.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EAmongst the Georgia Tech AMP participants is Jennifer Clark,\nAssociate Professor in the \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.spp.gatech.edu\/\u0022\u003ESchool of Public Policy\u003C\/a\u003E and a member of the \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/cope.gatech.edu\/\u0022\u003ECenter\nfor Organic Photonics and Electronics\u003C\/a\u003E.\u0026nbsp;\nShe will be participating in two working groups\u2014policy and shared\nfacilities as well as facilitating break-out groups at the meeting\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EAccording to Clark, \u201cThe Advanced Manufacturing Partnership\nis an opportunity for stakeholders concerned about expanding the U.S. role in\nhigh-tech manufacturing to influence how federal R\u0026amp;D investment is directed\ntoward that goal of connecting R\u0026amp;D capacity to production networks in the\nU.S.\u201d\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003ECommenting on Georgia Tech\u2019s role, Clark added, \u201cAs one of\nthe leading research universities in the US with extensive experience in connecting\ninnovations to industry, Georgia Tech has a history of investing in enabling\ntechnologies and developing policy models capable of\u0026nbsp;moving innovative\nresearch out of the university and into the production of more sustainable and\nefficient materials and products. This capacity is critical to the national\npriorities of job creation (especially green jobs) and energy independence.
