In 1999, he co-founded the Bridgespan\nGroup, an independent, nonprofit organization designed to provide professional\nservices to philanthropists, foundations and other nonprofits. In 2000, he\nstepped down as Bain \u0026amp; Company\u0027s chief executive to concentrate on Bridgespan-related\nactivities and in 2003, he led the development of Bridgestar, an initiative of\nthe Bridgespan Group dedicated to enhancing and increasing leadership talent\nfor the nonprofit sector.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003ETom frequently speaks and writes\non a variety of topics related to nonprofit leadership and philanthropy. He\nlectures at Harvard Business School and the Stanford University Graduate School\nof Business, chairs the \u003Ca title=\u0022Harvard Business School Initiative on Social Enterprise\u0022 href=\u0022http:\/\/www.hbs.edu\/socialenterprise\/\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022\u003EHarvard\nBusiness School Initiative on Social Enterprise\u003C\/a\u003E, and has\ncontributed to numerous case studies, chapters, and publications. \n\n\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003ETom joined Bain \u0026amp; Company in\n1980 following graduation from Harvard Business School, where he received his\nMBA with distinction. He was promoted to partner after three years and from\n1987 to 1992 served as the managing director of Bain\u0027s San Francisco office. In\n1992, he became Bain\u0027s chief executive. During the 1990s, under his leadership,\nBain \u0026amp; Company grew its revenues six-fold, while significantly expanding\nits international operations.\n\n\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EA native of California, he\nreceived his BA in Economics with highest distinction from the University of\nCalifornia at Davis, where he was honored as that year\u0027s most outstanding\ngraduate. He served as a field engineer for Bechtel International in North\nAfrica before entering business school. \n\n\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cem\u003EAbout the Impact\nSpeaker Series\u003C\/em\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003ESince 2002, the IMPACT Speaker Series has brought highly successful business\nleaders from a variety of industries to campus to share their experiences and\ngive advice to students and other entrepreneurs on topics ranging from\n\u0022building a venture around intellectual capital\u0022 to \u0022successful\nentrepreneurship in large organizations\u0022 and \u0022socially responsible\nleadership\u0022. \u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EThe weekly series provides Georgia Tech students, alumni and the Atlanta\nbusiness community an opportunity to network and learn from successful\nentrepreneurs, venture capitalists, and notable business and non-profit\nleaders.
