  <title><![CDATA[IMPACT Speaker Series: Tom Tierney, Chairman and Co-Founder, the Bridgespan Group]]></title>
  <body><![CDATA[<p>Tom Tierney is a co-founder and 
chairman of <a href="http://www.bridgespan.org/">The Bridgespan Group</a>, a former CEO of Bain &amp; Company, and a lecturer at both
 Harvard's and Stanford's business schools. In addition to numerous other publications, he recently co-authored the book, "Give Smart: Philanthropy that Gets Results. </p><p>Please join us on <strong>Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at 4:30pm</strong> in the College of Management's LeCraw Auditorium as Mr. Tierney kicks off the <a href="http://ile.gatech.edu/IMPACT.html">Spring 2012 IMPACT Speaker Series</a>. leader in serving the nonprofit sector. In 1999, he co-founded the Bridgespan
Group, an independent, nonprofit organization designed to provide professional
services to philanthropists, foundations and other nonprofits. In 2000, he
stepped down as Bain &amp; Company's chief executive to concentrate on Bridgespan-related
activities and in 2003, he led the development of Bridgestar, an initiative of
the Bridgespan Group dedicated to enhancing and increasing leadership talent
for the nonprofit sector.</p>

<p>Tom frequently speaks and writes
on a variety of topics related to nonprofit leadership and philanthropy. He
lectures at Harvard Business School and the Stanford University Graduate School
of Business, chairs the <a title="Harvard Business School Initiative on Social Enterprise" href="http://www.hbs.edu/socialenterprise/" target="_blank">Harvard
Business School Initiative on Social Enterprise</a>, and has
contributed to numerous case studies, chapters, and publications. 

</p><p>Tom joined Bain &amp; Company in
1980 following graduation from Harvard Business School, where he received his
MBA with distinction. He was promoted to partner after three years and from
1987 to 1992 served as the managing director of Bain's San Francisco office. In
1992, he became Bain's chief executive. During the 1990s, under his leadership,
Bain &amp; Company grew its revenues six-fold, while significantly expanding
its international operations.

</p><p>A native of California, he
received his BA in Economics with highest distinction from the University of
California at Davis, where he was honored as that year's most outstanding
graduate. He served as a field engineer for Bechtel International in North
Africa before entering business school.

Speaker Series</em></p>

<p>Since 2002, the IMPACT Speaker Series has brought highly successful business
leaders from a variety of industries to campus to share their experiences and
give advice to students and other entrepreneurs on topics ranging from
"building a venture around intellectual capital" to "successful
entrepreneurship in large organizations" and "socially responsible
leadership". </p>

<p>The weekly series provides Georgia Tech students, alumni and the Atlanta
business community an opportunity to network and learn from successful
entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, and notable business and non-profit
leaders. Events for the series take place in the LeCraw Auditorium in the
College of Management building at 4:30 pm on Wednesdays unless otherwise noted.
