{"76791":{"#nid":"76791","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Staffer, Husband Lost 275 Pounds Together","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EIf indulging in all of the goodies that go hand-in-hand with the holidays has left you with a spare tire around your waist that you are eager to lose, Sheree Gibson has some advice for you.\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp; \u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u201cOver the past year, my husband, Marlon, and I have collectively lost 275 pounds,\u201d said Gibson, area manager for the Freshman Experience Program at Georgia Tech. \u201cWe didn\u2019t want to have surgery and didn\u2019t use any magic pills. We did it the old fashioned way \u2014 by changing our diets and exercise habits.\u201d\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EWhen their physician told them they were both at risk for developing diabetes and high blood pressure, it was a wake-up call. \u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u201cWe changed our diets to include little to no processed foods and increased our fiber intake,\u201d Gibson said. \u201cPlus, we started working with a trainer, walking three times a week, cycling and incorporating the elliptical machine into our training.\u201d \u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EDuring the entire process, Gibson stayed in close contact with her physician, who has confirmed that she\u2019s no longer at risk for diabetes and high blood pressure. \u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003ENone of her weight loss success would have been possible without the support that Gibson and her husband provided to each other. And both have been so pleased with their progress, they have set new goals. \u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u201cI\u2019d still like to lose about 25 more pounds, and I\u2019d like to run the Peachtree [Road Race] this July,\u201d Gibson said.\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp; \u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003ERead on to learn more about Gibson and her time at Tech.\u003Cstrong\u003E\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EHow did you get to your current position?\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EI earned my undergraduate degree at The Ohio State University and my master\u2019s at Bowling Green State University. When it was time to get a job, I decided to come south because I prefer the warm weather. I started at Tech in 2005 as a hall director for the Freshman Experience, a housing program that aims to help students build a solid personal and academic foundation during their first year, and moved into my current position in 2007. \u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EWhat are a few things you want people to know about your job?\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/strong\u003E\u0026nbsp; \u0026nbsp;\u003Cbr \/\u003EWe don\u2019t plan parties and games \u2014 we plan programming on everything from time management to the co-op programs so that students can succeed personally and academically during their time at Tech. Also, I don\u2019t work a 9-to-5 job. There\u2019s always the occasional crisis in the middle of the night. \u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EWhat piece of technology could you not live without professionally and personally?\u0026nbsp; \u0026nbsp;\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EMy iPhone.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EWhich do you prefer: Facebook, Twitter or a world without all of this social media stuff?\u0026nbsp; \u003C\/strong\u003EI love Facebook! It\u2019s so neat to see everyone\u2019s pictures and status updates. \u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EWhat is the best advice you\u2019ve ever received? \u003C\/strong\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EMy grandmother told me that \u201cExperience is a dear teacher, but a fool knows no other.\u201d This means that you can experience things on your own, but there are others out there who\u2019ve already been through what you\u2019re going through. Look to them for wisdom. \u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EIf you could have dinner with one person, who would it be?\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EI would want to meet W.E.B. DuBois.
