{"81121":{"#nid":"81121","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Kindles and iPad 2\u2019s Now Available for Checkout from Library","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EKindle E-readers and\nApple iPad\u2019s are now available for checkout from the Georgia Tech Library.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EThe Kindles are 3G\npowered, Wi-Fi enabled, and available for a two-week loan period. The iPad 2\u2019s\nare Wi-Fi enabled and \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/gil.gatech.edu\/ipad.php\u0022\u003Eavailable for 48-hour loan\u003C\/a\u003E. Currently, there are five of\neach device available for checkout from the Library Service Desk. Library staff\ndesigned a quick-start guide for those who are unfamiliar with these devices.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003E\u201cWe are looking to the future needs of students\nand trying to stay ahead of the curve,\u201d said Justin Ellis of the Library. \u201cAs\nclass assignments and coursework increasingly take students outside of the\nLibrary, they will now have access to the mobile resources they need.\u201d\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EThe\ngrowing popularity of e-readers and tablet computers sparked a trend among academic\nlibraries to start mobile device loan programs. Ellis added that feedback from\nstudents, faculty, and staff will influence the purchase of more Kindles and\niPads in the future. \u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003E\u201cAfter\nwe have analyzed the feedback, we may look at extending the loan period for the\niPads, as well,\u201d Ellis added.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003ELibrary\nstaff also plans to gather feedback from users to determine whether the devices\nare used primarily for leisure or academic purposes, and to solicit suggestions\nfor e-book and app store purchases. A number of productivity apps and e-books are\nalready installed on each device.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EUsers\ncan also sign-in to their personal Amazon and iTunes accounts to download\ncontent.
