{"86071":{"#nid":"86071","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Dr. Christine Payne Honored with a DARPA Young Faculty Award","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EThe objective of the DARPA Young Faculty Award (YFA) program is to identify and engage rising research stars in junior faculty positions at U.S. academic institutions and expose them to Department of Defense needs as well as DARPA\u00e2\u0080\u0099s program development.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EChristine Payne is the third faculty member to receive this honor, following Wendy Kelly and Jake Soper.  Her research is entitled \u0022Intracellular synthesis of conducting polymer nanowires for electrical stimulation and sensing,\u0022 that will use cells to generate nanowires.\n\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EThe YFA program provides funding, mentoring, and industry and DoD contacts to awardees early in their careers so they may develop their research ideas in the context of DoD needs. The program focuses on untenured faculty, emphasizing those without prior DARPA funding.
