Carol Colatrella, associate dean for graduate studies and professor in the School of Literature, Media, and Communication, has been selected as a recipient of the 2014 Georgia Tech Diversity Champion Award. The Diversity Champion Award recognizes students, staff, faculty, and units who have actively demonstrated and positively promoted the concepts of diversity, equity, and inclusion within the Georgia Tech campus community.

Recipients are selected according to a set of criteria including:

• A commitment to excellence, diversity, equity, and inclusion
• Leadership in building a culture of inclusion and equity
• Behavior that illustrates commitment to the inclusion of persons within the institution who represent the diversity of the Georgia Tech community
• Organizing, conducting, and/or supporting events and activities that promote cross-cultural understanding, respect, and inclusion of diverse individuals and groups

Diversity is at the core of the academic mission at Georgia Tech and the Ivan Allen College, which strives to recruit, develop, retain, and engage a heterogeneous cadre of students, faculty, and staff with a wide variety of backgrounds, perspectives, interests, and talents.

Colatrella will be honored at the Sixth Annual Georgia Tech Diversity Symposium Luncheon on September 5, 2014.
